My favorite bits are how kindly he talked about Pat Morita. How I had no idea that the studio wanted to cut his entire story of the camps but they all fought to keep it in. I agree with Ralph, it's what probably gave him that nod for an award. I also loved how he explained the bandana and how it became so synonymous with Karate Kid. a b Chi, Paul (June 1, 2009). I wanted to write a very specific memoir about what it’s been like to walk in these shoes,” Macchio tells The Hollywood Reporter of his ambitions for the tome, from Penguin Random House imprint Dutton. “I wanted to make it a conversation, and I think we achieved that with some really good, never-before-told stories about this 40-year journey that is still writing itself.” Rowles, Dustin (February 1, 2021). Macchio appeared in the 2007 music video for the song " Sweep the Leg" by No More Kings as a caricature of himself and Daniel from The Karate Kid. [19] [20] On its release, Roger Ebert called the film one of the year's best, gave it four stars out of four, and described it as an exciting, sweet-tempered, heart-warming story with interesting friendships in the film. [37] Janet Maslin of The New York Times also gave a positive review. [38] The Karate Kid ranked #40 on Entertainment Weekly 's list of the 50 Best High School Movies. [39] The Karate Kid is a 1984 American martial arts drama film written by Robert Mark Kamen and directed by John G. Avildsen. It is the first installment in the Karate Kid franchise, and stars Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue and William Zabka. [3] [4] The Karate Kid follows the story of Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), an Italian-American teenager from New Jersey who moves with his widowed mother to the Reseda neighborhood of Los Angeles. There, LaRusso encounters harassment from his new bullies, one of whom is Johnny Lawrence (Zabka), the ex-boyfriend of LaRusso's love interest, Ali Mills (Shue). As a result, LaRusso is taught karate by a handyman and war veteran named Mr. Miyagi (Morita) to help LaRusso defend himself and compete in a karate tournament against his bullies.

Success!

The Karate Kid remake was an absolute mess. I watched it. Not in theaters, thank goodness. It was a mess, and unworthy of the franchise.

I have also become addicted to watching Cobra Kai which is a great continuation of the mythos (unlike other franchises which ruin and put down their fans). Their apartment's handyman is an eccentric, but kind and humble Okinawan immigrant named Mr. Miyagi. The book will be Ralph Macchio's celebratory reflection on the legacy of The Karate Kid in film, pop culture, and his own life. It will be a comprehensive look at a film that shaped him as much as it influenced the world. Macchio will share an insider's perspective of the untold story behind his starring role--the innocence of the early days, the audition process, and the filmmaking experience--as well as take readers through the birth of some of the film's most iconic moments. You try not to take things for granted when you’re younger - you do. Wisdom and time teaches you a bit of that. I would tell myself to stop - stop and smell the roses kind of thing, as lame as it sounds. Stop and look around and just take it all in because there was more than a handful of years, if not a decade and a half or longer, where it was nowhere to be found. I survived it in a very good way and came out on my feet and that’s also something to take away from this book, as well.”
