While we're on the topic of Singapore, I'm glad to say that while Singapore only appears for a few chapters, its portrayal was more accurate than that Singapore Lover book. For one thing, prata appears! I miss prata! And Milo Dinosaur and Milo Godzilla.

We understand that buying kids books can be expensive. That's why we offer a wide range of box sets and series at affordable prices, making it easier for parents, teachers, and libraries to access quality books for children. Last, but not least, I wish Koeppel had used footnotes to cite his source material. I suppose he deemed them too “academic” for the average reader or something. Instead, his sources (both major and minor) are dropped into the narrative with an audible CLUNK! But the biggest mystery about the banana today is whether it will survive. A seedless fruit with a unique reproductive system, every banana is a genetic duplicate of the next, and therefore susceptible to the same blights. Today's yellow banana, the Cavendish, is increasingly threatened by such a blight -- and there's no cure in sight. Egmont has constantly made an impressionable impact time and time again to inspire and encourage young readers to learn the essential skills of reading. Egmont releases a list of the best and top quality titles from superb authors and illustrators which include picture books, classic titles such as Winnie the Pooh, Thomas & Friends, Andy Stanton to name a few. Some of these include fiction and non fiction books, but you can be confident that Egmont only produces the very best books. Egmont releases books which include a broad range, they focus on keeping kids entertained at all times whether they are traditional story books or gaming like Minecraft. This collection is divided into three sections for the purpose of developing kids reading ability in a steady and consistent way without putting them into too much pressure or problems, some of these methods includes simple stories, theme focussed, big speech bubbles to help parents guide children, and single stories to aid kids in learning how to follow a story from start to finish and help them understand comprehension skills. Revealing in its exploration of cultural and generational conflicts and moving in its optimism.' The Guardian, UKIt's absolutely wild how much pain and destruction a couple of fruit companies have caused on this earth. And how much financial and political power they have wielded in the United States and continue to wield. Because Panama disease was permanently making fallow so much of its existing holdings, the fruit companies had a continuous need for new land, according to John Soluri, author of Banana Cultures: Agriculture, Consumption, and Environmental Change in Honduras and the United States.”

Xing Li is what some Chinese people call a banana - yellow on the outside and white on the inside. A great story about Xing Li life, after her mothers death she and her brother live with her Grandma, there are secrets to be uncovered. Bananas are cheerful! This is noted even in the book itself (finally, getting to the actual book in question), which includes a remarkably informative chapter on the 1922 Tin Pan Alley novelty hit “Yes, We Have No Bananas” and yet another one devoted to slipping on a banana peel as classic movie sight gag. Since the book's publication in 2008, the banana has continued to provide comic fodder as the favorite food/conversation topic/go-to any-occasion utterance of the yellow pill-shaped Minions, of lucrative movie and associated licensing fame.

Koeppel spent many chapters on the history of United Fruit, the modern Chiquita. I knew it was a history of violent colonialism, but I didn't know to what extent. The history of the "banana republics" of Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, etc. is fascinating, dark and disturbing. Guatemala in particular, with the CIA-orchestrated conspiracy / coup that was very much related to United Fruit and bananas. To be fair, I also want to point out that anti-GMO zealots can be useful in their incorrectness, since it seems reasonable that private enterprises engaged in genetic manipulation can be expected to engage in safety-be-damned corner-cutting in pursuit of the largest return for their shareholders, so should be watched over by as many people as possible with a heartfelt adversarial relationship to the process.
