Description

The “Physium” app will give you the full periodic table of elements as well as a good amount of scientific constants. The periodic table is one of the most impressive ones we have seen on a graphing calculator. Featuring a large memory capacity, the calculator allows for the storage and retrieval of data, formulas, and graphs. Additionally, it supports data transfer to personal computers and can be connected to other devices for enhanced functionality. The Casio fx-CG50 isn’t very sleek or lightweight, but I think that it has a moderately appealing design. The color scheme and physical look of the fx-CG50 make it seem like the big brother of the Casio ClassWiz fx-991EX. Below on the left is the Casio ClassWiz fx-991EX (a scientific calculator) next to the Casio fx-CG50.

Another reason many teachers are interested in using the fx-CG50 is that it’s a lot better at displaying and calculating statistics than the fx-991ex. In Statistics mode, which is shortcut ”2” in Main Menu, there’s a whole range of features available to construct pie charts, bar charts, histograms and box plots (referred to as a MedBox on the device) lists of data. It’s very useful, as the device will draw these diagrams and graphs for you. If we take the box plots example, you can easily draw up to three of these and then compare them. The device also gives you access to the summary statistics. You can TRACE a point and find out for example, the median value. the lower quartile; or the smallest value in the list. The graphing speed isn’t too bad but it’s not snappy either. From my tests I was able to graph a 3D shape in about 6 seconds. Once you get the shape graphed though, you can look at it from different angles no problem. Just use the directional pad and you will change your viewing angle without any hesitation by the calculator. Hardware The graphing app on the Casio fx-CG50 is great. It is simple but capable and does everything you need it to in an easy to use fashion. The fx-CG50 has a financial calculation app that makes the calculator especially useful for things like home finance. This app has a lot of built in features and it makes doing these types of calculations pretty easy The high resolution color screen is also a plus for usability. You are able to see more items in each menu at once and the colors make the important things and pieces of information pop. Textbook Printing and Exact Answers You can also select different series of the elements in the table. For example, you can see all of the Alkali Metals selected in the table below.

Additionally, you can find the values of the summary statistics quite easily for any lists of data that you have. Remember: The functionality keeps expanding The fx-CG50 is also able to simplify radicals and fractions all on its own. So that means if you enter a radical, say √24, you will get the answer as 2√6 instead of a decimal. (Of corse, you can press a button to get the classic decimal answer if you ever need it) Getting started with calculations is fairly intuitive. When dealing with fractions, you can input fractions quite nicely using the default fraction button, which every calculator has. You can use S to D to interchange between fractions and decimal solutions. This powerful calculator enables you to plot and analyse graphs and their transformations, import data directly over USB, plot data charts and calculate statistics, calculate and visualise probability distributions, plot and solve graphs in 3D, calculate matrix and vector arithmetic, perform complex calculations not possible on a scientific calculator, calculate spreadsheets and recursive sequences, and whole host more. The history feature means you can do a calculation and then do another calculation with that answer. However, unlike on scientific calculators there is more than one line of input shown, meaning you can expand or amend a series of calculations further and even go off the screen – you can keep scrolling down, and you’re not limited to the space shown on the screen. Exploring graph mode Mybestadvicewouldbetoseewhatyourschoolusesastheywillmostlikelyteachyouhowtousethecalculatorthatthemajorityofstudenthaveandalsomaybeabletoofferadiscountiftheybulkbuycalculatorsatthestartoftheyear(mostschoolsdothis). Things like graphing are where calculators with color screens really shine. The fx-CG50 lets you graph up to 20 lines on the same graph Table mode is accessed from the Main Menu by pressing t”7”. It’s worth noting that both Table mode and Graph mode carry the functions over, so you don’t have to enter anything new. After entering a function, you can use the on-screen choice to set the table’s start and finish value and the interval. When you press TABLE, it will populate the values for you. You can scroll across the table and explore the values, or you can change the table by editing an existing x-value. You can evaluate more than one function at a time. Simply scroll to see all the values. So, again, you’re not limited to what’s just on screen. Stats mode on the fx-CG50 Knowing these two views is useful because sometimes you may need a decimal because it’s asked for in a question, or sometimes you use the fraction because that’s an exact answer.

You may want to graph a function because you want to analyse it. You would then use Graph Solve or G-SOLVE. The most common aspects you may want to explore on your graph include finding the root, it’s local maximum value or its local minimum value, where it is crossing the y-axis. or, if there are two functions drawn, where they cross each other. With its durable construction, the Casio FX-CG50 ensures long-term reliability and longevity. It is built to withstand everyday use and can withstand accidental drops and impacts. The calculator is also battery-powered, providing convenience and portability for on-the-go use. You can also explore surds,This experience is different to the one on scientific calculators, where it is a straightforward button press. On the fx-CG50, accessing the radical is a subordinate function, so you must press the SHIFT button first, and then x 2to get you the square root. For some reason, Casio only lets you graph lines in 5 different colors, even though the screen can display many more than that. However this is made up for by the fact that you can customize the style of the line as seen below. Below is an image of all the apps in the home screen, just so you can get an idea of all of the apps this calculator includes.Oxford Educational Supplies Limited is a private limited company and has no affiliation to the University of Oxford or Oxford University Press (OUP). The fx-CG50 brings maths to life with the next generation of graphic calculator technologies; including high-resolution colour display with natural textbook display, innovative picture plot function enabling analysis of images and video, and an extensive range of graphic functions. The fx-CG50 has all the functionality of the fx-CG20 with the addition of 3D graphs. The Casio FX-CG50 is capable of performing a wide range of mathematical operations, including basic arithmetic, algebraic equations, and statistical calculations. It also supports graphing functions, making it a useful tool for students and professionals alike.
