Multipurpose Humanoid Decisive Weapon Evangelion is the only method to counter these Angels, and Shinji Ikari is chosen as its pilot. You’re all tripping balls if you think any country aside from Japan influences decisions made in 90+% anime (or more importantly, manga and light novels as that’s what most anime adapt from as opposed to being original) and even that’s probably a conservative estimate. And NGE starts of strong but loses steam half way when it becomes clear that even Anno doesn't really know what's going on anymore. The ADV Dub (The one that includes Spike Spencer, Tiffany Grant and Amanda Winn-Lee as Shinji, Asuka, and Rei, respectively) is available on either the “Ultimate Edition” or the “Limited Collector’s Edition. I totally understand why it would utterly blow the minds of the kids who saw it on the initial run—it was aired in Japan as children’s TV… it’s anything but.

The main criticism levelled against is actually about the sexualisation of the 14-year-old pilots, but that stems from Westerners simply not understanding Japanese culture. The Rebuild films aren’t included, but they’re a sorta reboot so makes sense they’re sold separately. Show spoiler] So since "Fly Me to the Moon" has been used in trailers and teasers for other anime and games makes me think it's not the song itself that is so expensive to use (or at least a 1 time use), I more have the feeling that one party is to greedy. Presented on Blu-ray, this groundbreaking, action-packed series from creator Hideaki ANNO has been hailed as one of the most important anime series of all time – a remarkable fusion of genres, and a powerful examination of the relationship between man and machine.

I love this show and I'm not thrilled with the new English dub but the translation and pronunciations seem much more accurate.

Before we got the recent Rebuild of Evangelion movies, there was only the original TV series and its movies. Please Note: The international re-release of NEON GENESIS EVANGELION does not contain "FLY ME TO THE MOON" in any of its home video editions. The show and the film are considered a complex and layered look at depression and existential dread. Since then, this post-apocalyptic story of a young boy’s traumatic battle against the Angels that threaten to bring about the second end of the world has been viewed by millions of fans the world over, and has no doubt acted as the gateway anime for many fans the world over. With the exception of a single episode, the entire series was mastered from the original negatives for this Blu-ray release. He also seemed to imply that the song is what held up the series from seeing a disc release outside Japan for so many years.

It consists of a recap of the show with footage from the feature film, so it’s not necessary if you watched the show.Still, as a 31-year-old who has seen a ton of surrealist cinema, read existentialist literature, and gotten to know my world mythologies/religion, it all feels kind of counterfeit. Fly Me to the Moon" may not be used in connection with the series in any territory outside of Japan. In the same way, omitting Fly Me to the Moon from this release doesn’t detract from the story or the series overall. I do also feel sorry for GKIDS in this instance, as it’s clear that the owners of the song likely wanted a lot more for the rights this time around.
