Note that I "enhanced" the chroma image to brighten and increase the contrast to see the details a bit better. There really aren't that many well organized comparisons available online (at least that I could find! So with that knowledge firmly in the forefront of our minds we get to delve into what it means to be human, and what it means to be artificial at the same time. It’s arguably, too, that the original film has somehow earned this more stately, more overtly cerebral second installment. The picture and sound are simply perfect, whilst the set is funded off with a decent selection of extras that expand on the film's production and ideas.

Interstellar (3/5) - combination of 35mm and IMAX 65/15perf film source with questionable resolution improvement. When the prospect of a sequel was first raised, my thinking was "well that could be interesting, but no, I'm good.

Whether it’s the pores on K’s face, the fur collar of his leather jacket, the tiny details in the floors and walls of the furnace room where K has his apocryphal toy horse memory, or the vast piles of junk around the orphanage, this is 4K heaven all the way. created in a digital 4K master for its cinematic release and even, so it seems, delivered with native 4K or 3. Right off the bat you get introduced to bass, bass, and MORE unending bass as the heavy beats of the Hans Zimmer and Ben Wallfisch electronic score pulsate through the sound stage. It's more than happy with quieter scenes, the absence of noise used to great effect to hold attention. A 21-minute feature on designing the world of Blade Runner 2049 gets things off to a strong start, exploring both the film’s general style as well as the creation of specific scenes and futuristic objects via a great mix of artwork, interview clips (including some with Ridley Scott) and behind the scenes footage.

A crack Bladerunner finds out something of grave importance, and has to go on a quest to discover what he can about himself, the replicants he’s hunting, and what it means to be human. Whilst the score has been somewhat divisive amongst even fans of the film, with some just not feeling the oppressive overtones which often try to drown out the Vangelis-inspired core, whilst others embrace the respectful updating of score design which is perfectly in-line with Villeneuve's updating of visual aesthetic (and even the narrative design for that matter! Performances are superb, with Gosling perfectly cast as the new blade runner on the block, whilst Ana de Armas and Sylvia Hoeks surprise with their innovative artificiality.
