When first turning on the T3-R from standby and going to the Recordings menu the recordings sections could appear empty until exiting and re-entering the menu.

When content in an app (e.g. ITV Hub) was regionally restricted the error message made it sound like there was a problem with the app or T3-R. The message now clearly states it is the content that is unavailable. When a recording was stopped, deleted and then started again, the new recording would show in the Trash. The device was an early adopter of Freeview Play, seamlessly integrating live TV with catch-up and on-demand services. In 2022, Freeview stopped allowing manufacturers to produce official Freeview boxes without support for Freeview Play (Freeview’s broadband-connected tier that combines standard Freeview with streaming apps like BBC iPlayer).

ITVX Confusion On The Humax Aura

That’s something many were hoping for – especially for the ability to set recordings remotely (via the app), or even the ability to stream recordings from the box to your smartphone. The T4 and T4-R will also support Channel List Management, a newer Freeview function that enables HD-swapping of channels. For several weeks leading up to the discontinuation, consumers noticed that the T3-R had become increasingly difficult to find in online retail stores. The T3 will ignore retune events for transmitters that it cannot receive or are not currently tuned. Freely is being positioned as the streaming successor to Freeview and Freesat, although these traditional platforms will continue to function alongside Freely – at least for a time. And since software upgrades are easier to do via WiFI or Ethernet, the USB port is all but useless at this point- maybe we’ll get more out of it in the future. The Manhattan T3-R is a powerhouse. It’s obviously got processing power to spare because it zips around the Freeview Play user interface – itself a thing of beautiful simplicity – with bristling ease. It’s a joy to use, which isn’t something we thought we’d be saying about a Freeview set-top box.
