Place the first batch of hook-and-loop fastener on the chest strap by pinning the rough side of a 2” piece to the outside fabric in the middle of one of the sides of the chest strap. If you’re sewing this for a medium or large size dog—of if you just have a particularly rambunctious dog like I do—I recommend using two strips of hook-and-loop fastener on each strap.Pin the soft side of the fastener to the middle of the lining side of the other chest strap. There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’ goes the saying, and it’s certainly true that as a dog owner, you get used to going out, come rain or shine! But while it’s easy enough for us humans to make sure we’ve got the right kit for all conditions, it’s not always so simple when it comes to your dog. There’s a huge range of dog coats on the market – so should your dog be wearing one, and if so, how do you choose the right coat for your dog? Does my dog need a coat? Here at Lords & Labradors, our collection of luxury dog blankets has everything you need when it comes to finding your pup’s new favourite item. Using a sewing machine, or carefully sewing by hand, sew all the way around the coat, except leave about 3” open on one end. Washability is another consideration, especially if your dog is the type that likes to get wet and muddy (is there any other kind?!) Look for material – like a wool or polyester mix – that you can throw in the machine at the end of a muddy walk.

This amount of fabric will work for most dogs. If you have a tiny dog, you’ll have quite a bit left over, and if you have a very large dog, you’ll need to get more. In part, what makes our dog coats so popular is that they really fit dogs well. As small, specialist manufacturers we appreciate that generic styles of dog coats will fit some dogs fine. However, we prefer to fit specific breeds with specifically cut coats. Hence, our whippet coats are cut to fit whippets, our greyhound coats to fit greyhounds and, at the other end of the scale, our dachshund coats are cut specifically to fit dachshunds. Some breeds of sporting dogs have a similar body shape, hence our Pointer coat is also a great fit on Vizslas, Weimaraners and other slim, athletic working dogs. If you don’t need to add a hole for a harness loop, you’re all done! Put it on your puppy and go for a walk. If you do need a harness hole, move onto step five. Optional Step 5: Make Hole for Harness Loop This heated blanket also has a temperature sensor to help keep your dog safe. Just remember to always monitor your dogs while they use an eletrically heated blanket as an added safety precaution. If your dog is a senior with aches and pains or just needs a little extra warmth, the Toozey heated blanket has six temperature settings ranging from 86-131 degrees. It also has a timer that can be set from 4 to 24 hours, is insulated to prevent burns, and has a protected cord to prevent chewing—although dogs prone to destruction would be best suited for a different option, like the Furhaven self-warming bed above. In the UK, dogs are unlikely to need paw coverings, unless the thermostat drops below around -5°C. Their paws will get cold in winter, but it’s best to let them warm up gradually. Don’t be tempted to plunge your dog’s paws into warm water after a walk – the extra throbbing can be uncomfortable.
