TechTip: To determine the outside diameter of the pipe, wind a length of cotton twice around the pipe without stretching it and then measure its length. Customer Notice - Chemical Resistance: Polyacetal split rings and NBR o-rings, suitable for water, are supplied as standard. CPVC split rings and EPDM or FPM o-rings and seals are available. For aggressive chemical applications, the end user is advised to test suitability. These couplings are designed to join MDPE pipe with MDPE, PVC, ABS copper, stainless steel, galvanised iron, or lead pipe. Tested to high standards - ISO 17885 for Water Applications, AS/NZS 4129, ISO 7/1, BS 21, DIN 2999, UNI 9561, NEN 3258, AS 1722, DIN 8076 Do you think you are up to replacing all that lead pipe at some point? If so, I think you'll find it's fixed into that cast connector using mortar or similar, so that will need lots of gentle chipping away too, and try to avoid any of it falling inside that pipe.

This PLASSON Plass4 universal coupler is designed to make a straight connection with metric MDPE and any metric PE/uPVC/copper/lead/galvanised steel pipe. Includes liner for MDPE.Able to withstand working pressures of up to 10bar, this WRAS approved product is suitable for use in systems conveying water and other fluids in urban and inter-urban infrastructure, industrial, mining, landscape and farming, as well as optical fibre duct systems. Now, assemble the joint. Place the compression nut over the pipe with its open side facing the end. Slide this along and follow it with the gripper ring then friction ring. Lastly, push the rubber O ring onto the lead pipe before mounting the coupling itself on the end of the pipe. Make sure that the lead pipe fully engages into the fitting body. Pull the rubber O ring and other components down to the fitting and hand tighten the compression nut. There may be situations where you need to make a connection to a lead pipe. You may have a leaking joint or fitting, or there may be an old lead pipe that needs to be capped off.Ab, you managed to remove the two bolts on the inspection cover? Cool - that's the hard bit done. The cover will be held by paint, most likely, or a thin 'rust' bond, but nothing serious. Replace grip ring by forming a figure 6 to reduce the diameter and insert it into the fitting the same way round as the old one was removed A common difficulty with this fitting is establishing the size of the lead pipe so that the correct connector can be bought. Lead is generally referred to by weight as well as diameter. So, you will find the following sizes: Universal couplings are pre-assembled and ready for use. Simply insert your chosen pipe into the fitting and tighten the nut. The UTC ends contain hard stainless steel gripping teeth which provide superior end load resistance.

Now, tighten the nut with a wrench. Hold the body of the fitting with a second wrench to prevent it turning. This fitting will need to be done up very tight to ensure that the O ring seals against the lead pipe and that the gripper ring is moulded to the pipe shape fully. The friction ring prevents over tightening and crushing or misshaping the pipe out of shape.Push the pipe into the fitting with a slight twist ensuring the pipe can be felt passing through the grip ring and then the O ring. This will be felt as a slight resistance as it passes through each when inserting the pipe Choose a straight section of the lead pipe and, with the water turned off and the pipework drained, cut the lead pipe ensuring that this is square and clean. If there are any markings on the lead at this point you will need to carefully file them off so that the size is not distorted.
