I enjoyed this book and there were quite a few take homes from it - I think it’s my favourite of all of her books that I’ve read so far. My relationship with love has changed over the years. At times I merely viewed it as something to get drunk on. I would crave kisses and human touch and the thrill of feeling my heart flip upside down with lust. An intoxicating, heart-thumping love was all I desired and the only kind of love I recognised outside of the grounded, long-lasting love for my family. Self-love was not in my orbit for a long time. I assumed I would like myself more if I was loved by another, maybe even lots of others. As my TV audience increased, I expected to find more acceptance of the bits of me I didn’t like. Maybe if others loved my insatiable enthusiasm that I felt out of control of, I would like it more too? Maybe if my characterful nose and bulbous eyes were applauded, I would find it easier to look in the mirror without judgement? I learned that lesson the hard way and have only really started to understand the power of self-love and acceptance recently. I try ( like most people!) to absorb anything that might speak to my soul - whether it’s a book or a podcast relating to every day mental health or learnings around personal growth . A few years ago, I would have considered any conversation on such topics to be incredibly indulgent and without substance. Now I can’t get enough of it. She has hosted parts of the Red Nose Day telethon for Comic Relief (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011) presenting several strands alongside Jonathan Ross and Lenny Henry.

Another thing I think is worth mentioning is rituals, now I’m sure many of you are thinking you don’t take part in rituals but I bet your wrong. Have you ever thrown confetti at a wedding? Blown out candles on your birthday? Put a tree up at Christmas? Counted down to New Years? These are all symbolic moments of gratitude and love that we take for granted but that we all do… without questioning why. However they’re all old traditions. What if we put simple easy traditions into our everyday? Like lighting a candle? Cotton hosted Sky1's talent search Must Be The Music for one series in 2010. [15] Commercials [ edit ] In her fourth book, Fearne Cotton explores that which is bigger than us. From meditation to mediums, there is something for everyone within whether you are a total sceptic, total believer or looking for something more. Jambo Truong, a teacher in anatomy, body work, ceremony, meditation and yoga, will introduce you to the benefits of meditation and guide you through a live exercise.

This book covered a great deal, but unfortunately it didn't go into much detail - this left me a little disappointed. Cotton had interviewed some of her favourite practitioners in each field - but these were people she has previously had on her 'Happy Place' podcast, so I felt a bit short changed. I listen to the podcast, and love the podcast but I wasn't expecting half of this book to almost be a transcript of the podcast. There are many different ways we can connect with ourselves some traditional ways include meditation, yoga, astrology, crystal healing and prayer (not just religious). However other less obvious ways include having a cup of tea, listening to music, exercise, getting out in nature, crafting, cleaning, practicing gratitude, posting positive content on socials and other great habits. We all have our own ways of finding contentment in the world. However embarking on a new idea can sometimes give us a sense of being an imposter because we don’t recognise ourselves in that particular way, let me tell you, you can be anything … you don’t have to be an expert to start something new! In her brand-new book, Fearne Cotton seeks out the insight and advice of wise minds to explore what they can teach us to achieve happiness, connection and hope. Is there anything bigger than love? It’s all-encompassing and the catalyst to life itself but when we can’t see it, life can feel barren, brittle and unforgiving. Love is safety, comfort, reassurance, motivation, community-building, miracle-making. It is omnipresent and everywhere, so why at times does it seem to vanish completely? Fearne's Leaving Us". Understanding your emotions, what you need and learning to live in the present are such fundamentals. They’re so important and this book again, delivered on this front. On 16 July 2009, it was announced that Cotton would become the new presenter of BBC Radio 1's weekday mid-morning show, taking over from Jo Whiley (who moved to weekends). Her new programme began on 21 September 2009. [23] [24] Willoughby, Cotton, Holly, Fearne (14 October 2010). The Best Friends' Guide to Life. Vermilion. ISBN 978-0-09-193540-5. {{ cite book}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list ( link) This book’s purpose is to get us all looking at the concepts that are bigger than our own individual thoughts.’ - Fearne Cotton, Bigger Than Us Her warmth, natural interview skills and ability to make presenting live TV seem effortless and has given her the opportunity to present a variety of shows over the years. How we get to that place is another story. My own rollercoaster of self-examination has been one of severe self-loathing at times and I’m so desperate to settle into a calmer plateau of self-acceptance. I assume that once I get there my relationships will be better, my love for the planet will be more respectful and my understanding of love in all its many guises will be cemented. I believe love is where it’s at when it comes to living a spiritual life of connection and meaning. It’s often the answer to so many of our problems but so often we forget it’s for us, due to feelings of unworthiness, and can’t perceive it in others as we only see our differences. A criticism? I found myself disengaging within certain sections, but I think this is more to do with my state of mind rather than the book itself. Everyone will relate to each subject in different ways. In 2018, Cotton began presenting Happy Place, a podcast available to online streaming platforms. [3] She has also released eight self-help books, two children's books, and four books on healthy eating. [4] Early life [ edit ] Sarah Dale (24 September 2007). " 'I do' followed by a bit of a do". Evening Gazette. Archived from the original on 2 December 2008 . Retrieved 22 December 2008. She also presented the Friday night live eviction programme that year for the Channel 5 reality television series Make Me a Supermodel.

Now I don’t use all of the above methods, some don’t align with my beliefs and I think it’s private to each person. However one belief I do have that I’ll share with you is I don’t think it matters how much “evidential proof” we have of any of these things to be a justifiable coping mechanism. Wherever you find comfort and happiness in life… be it religion, reading, crystals, meditation, yoga, astrology or as simple as your morning cuppa or a lit candle… embrace it. …Here’s the thing we can be different, have different beliefs and Co-exist, that is possible and it’s beautiful … mind blowing I know! Shenton, Zoe (27 February 2015). "Fearne Cotton is Pregnant!". The Mirror . Retrieved 28 February 2015. In 2003, Cotton moved over to mainstream broadcasting. She along with Simon Grant (her co-presenter from The Saturday Show) presented the spin-off show Top of the Pops: Saturday (later renamed Top of the Pops: Reloaded) that year. In 2004, she moved up to work alongside Reggie Yates on the main programme, Top of the Pops (the then flagship chartshow for the BBC) becoming one of the last regular presenters for that programme, which ended in July 2006. Due to other commitments, she was unable to present the final show itself, appearing instead in a short film shown at the head of that show, in which she made her personal farewells. Cotton and Yates presented the one-off Christmas and New Year specials in both 2008 and 2009, as well as the Comic Relief special in 2009. From intuition and energy to the law of attraction, ritual, prayer and signs, Fearne explores positive ideas and exercises that are available to every single one of us.Fearne Wood [1] ( née Cotton; born 3 September 1981) [2] is an English broadcaster and author .
