Our Brewmasters recover one of the old Hijos de Rivera historic recipes, the “Especial Extra” (aka La Colorada). Brewed in the only Company’s brewery placed in A Coruña using our traditional methods: best ingredients, long maturing time, passion for the excellence.

The answer is that the Spanish word for beer originally came from the medieval French word “cervoise”, which itself originated from the Gallo-Roman word “cerevisia”. This is in reference to Ceres, the Roman goddess of the harvest. Sometime after this tern migrated from French to Spanish, the French shifted to using “biere”, derived from the German word “bier”. After a time, Spain and Portugal were the only dialects still using cerveza (“cerveja” in Portuguese). The beer is named after the year that San Francisco became a city. It is made with two-row malted barley, hops, water, and yeast.

If you are looking for a more unique Spanish beer, you may want to try Estrella Damm. Estrella Damm is a pale lager that is made with rice and barley. It is the everyday beer, the one you grab at the end of a long and sweaty day. De color oro viejo, brillante. Aromáticamente se percibe el balance hacia las maltas, con agradables notas dulces, a caramelo. En boca el amargor equilibra su alto grado alcohólico y su ligero postgusto picante. Sitting down to a plate or table full of tapas on a hot and humid Spanish afternoon, sipping on a cold glass of light beer is a tradition not to be skipped. Amongst them is the ‘Montseny Mala Vida Chili’, a Catalan beer, described as complex and dense, with spiced notes geared toward dark beer enthusiasts. Another worth mentioning is the Madrilenian ‘La Virgen de Castañas’, which is a beer with high fermentation, created via a unique process using roasted chestnuts that are peeled by hand. Last but not least, there is ‘La Sagra Blanca de Trigo,’ a light-coloured beer with high fermentation which boasts a fruity floral aroma with hints of citrus. There seem to be 3 overall categories of beer that the Spanish indulge in mostly: light lager, pilsner and surprisingly enough: alcohol-free beer!Looks a pretty amber. While its Smells are average, Tastes balance very well the sweet malts contained by drying hops at the finish. The mouth could be fuller and more bubbles... but the intent was not to produce a lager for the table. The most popular Spanish Pilsner would have to be a Pale Pilsen San Miguel, pairing wonderfully with Spanish food and a highly refreshing aftertaste. Some people have very strong negative feelings towards Cruzcampo and San Miguel, claiming that they are overly gassy. Generally speaking, many of the local beers brewed in Spain are considered quite delicious and do not have a negative reputation. Some bars will have very few options, perhaps even only one or two beers on tap. But this is not always the case. Unlike in some other European countries, Spanish beer is usually served very cold, which is welcome for most Americans. Often times, the glasses are even chilled. The popularity of beer over wine increased dramatically around the start of the 20th century. This sparked an upward trend in Spanish breweries opening up and producing local beer. Lagunitas is a family-owned business, and it is still operated by Magee and his wife, Margaret. The company has grown rapidly over the past few years, and it now employs more than 500 people. San Miguel beer goes best with: Gambas a la Plancha – prawns sautéed in salsa negra or garlic, cured cheese topped with anchovies.

The first two categories are a wonderful compliment to the commonly eaten tapas (food) eaten in Spain. And the last category makes up for 14% of the beer sales in Spain. What Are The Best Spanish Beers By Style? The brewery’s beers are all brewed in small batches, and they focus on using local ingredients.
