Now you can control when your pet leaves or stays inside, and gain insight into their behaviour whileyou're away. Those of us who are already servants to our feline overlords might be laughing at the idea that you can train a cat to do anything. To train the flap to recognise your cat, you will need to hold the disc or cat by the flap, press a single button and the flat will memorise the chip or ID and only allow that cat into the home. You’ll also see the “Secured by Thawte” icon at the payment step, which means our site has passed the daily Thawte security scan. Microchips are now compulsory for cats, so our range of microchip cat flaps are perfect for safely allowing your cats to adventure in the great outdoors – read more here .

Their business has probably not suffered too badly due to COVID restrictions [unlike many others] because so many people have adopted cats and kittens from Rescues since the lockdown in March, and many will no doubt want cat flaps and 'chipped feeders. This enables you to set different permissions for different pets as well as time limits, so younger cats can spend increasing amounts of time outdoors, or small dogs who also use the flap can be kept from going outdoors at night, for example. You can turn off the microchipper scanner so that the product is always open and there are options to stop certain microchipped animals from using the flap. Products like the Microchip Cat Flap Connect enable us to give cats their freedom, whilst still being able to have some control over what they do.Understanding your pet’s ‘usual’ routines makes it easier to spot anomalies which may indicate changes in health and wellbeing.

If you want to keep your kitty safe, the best microchip cat flaps are a particularly clever invention. You can programme up to 30 different microchips into the cat flap, making this a good choice for a multi-cat household. However, this flap is marginally slower to open than some others and this may take your cat a little while to get used to, so be patient. With the press of a button, it learns your cat’s chip number when they next saunter by, and testers found it just as easy to install in wooden, PVC or glass doors, as well as being reassured by the four-way lock that keeps strays out even while your cat is coming and going. By far the simplest option is in a UPVC door, where it’s just a matter of cutting a hole in the plastic and securing it in place. For example, setting a short nightly curfew can reduce the risk of a road traffic injury or to cut down the number of roosting birds a cat catches. The cat flap’s sensors recognise your cats’ microchip numbers so it will stop any intruders from coming in. It is easy to see that our dog isn’t feeling well from his behaviour; he might become reluctant to go for a walk, or can’t manage to go as far. Cat flaps in general are a godsend for those of us who are servants to moggies, meaning we don’t have to get up and down every five minutes to let a cat in or out through a window or door.

It’s extremely energy-efficient, with two magnetic closing points that increase insulation and act as a draught excluder. Not quite sure why they would do that, maybe people perceive LCD screens as being more low-tech even though its clear that it can be app controlled (unless they've replaced the original with a new 'cost optimized' revision in which case I'll probably send/take it back) there isn't all that much easily accessible information about the app but can I set for example multiple curfew times for one cat, ie not allowed out between 6am to 10am and 8pm to 11pm as well as times like rush hour (although I don't live by a main road it's still best to have him in when people are coming and going, even if only of due to the risk of him lying under a car and getting run over as one takes off) I can always set up a microcontroller with a clock and and an optical sensor to detect when cars pass and at what time so I can work out the best times to keep it locked too. In our opinion, the best smart cat flap, currently available, comes in the form of the original Sureflap, which can register the identification microchips of up to an incredible 32 cats – though it's equally suited to homes with just one, or a handful of kitties. Also some handy iOS features like pulling down the screen to refresh aren’t implemented that make the whole thing feel quite static and dated. So that whether you're at home or away you can relax in the knowledge that your cat has the freedom and security they deserve.
