Description

The game is based on the original Walking Dead comic books by Skybound Entertainment. The original boxed game is a great standalone game that is enhanced with various boosters and expansions. Q: I know you currently don’t have rules for inside buildings but are considering it. Obviously most of the rules will be the same as outside for moving, melee, etc. But a couple rules for buildings will be needed. You’ll need to assign your Survivor a nerve rating and some health. The Nerve rating is how easily they’ll panic during the game. Survivors all start at Low but if you want to increase that to Medium or High, it’ll cost five points or 15 points, respectively. We’re going to opt for Medium. We’re in the middle of writing all of this up at the moment, but I will leave you with some examples of scenarios that you can play out in the expansions. Eddy, Anthony, Jasmin, and Ronnie are exclusive walkers added to the game based on real life people.

It is not a game for young children, but that said the 9 & 10 year old EH Gaming members have lapped it up since that first game on Boxing Day and have become very adept at it. It helps that they have an already (un)healthy interest in tabletop games and miniatures though so perhaps this isn’t one to drop on a young child who still hasn’t graduated from Teletubbies and Junior Monopoly. A: Yes, they are standard industry sizes – 3.5″ x 2.5″ for event cards, and half that size for equipment. A couple of years ago I reviewed The Walking Dead: All-Out War, which was one of my love letters to a game I thought was brilliant. If you want to learn a little about how the game plays, please follow the link to the original review I wrote, I won’t go into that again here. It is a great example of rules and theme pairing beautifully with a system that covers everything you need it to while remaining elegant, clean, and simple. In 2019, Mantic Games released a series of miniatures for a new version of All Out War titled Call to Arms.Having been involved in some great TWD events over the last year such as Conflict, and designed the scenarios used in the two largest AOW events so far (Winter’s End & Trial By Fire), this guest blog is going to focus on some of the considerations you might have if you want to devise your own scenarios too. Aaron and Eric visit Heath to ask him how he feels about leaving Holly behind. He tells them he does not want to even think about it, Aaron then tells Eric to not stop thinking about it as it will help drive them in the coming battles. Aaron goes on to say that he can't wait until it is only the dead they have to worry about again, rather than the living. If a walker gets a critical hit result against a survivor and wins the combat then the survivor has been ‘Bitten’ and this can lead to that model eventually turning into a walker later in the game! This Walking Dead miniatures game represents larger scale conflicts than All Out War. The lone travellers struggling to survive in what’s left of the world have now formed communities, built walls, and gathered arms. However, the harsh conditions outside their walls have led these groups to fear the outside world. They see other groups as a threat to their very existence – no longer are the dead the only ones to fear… How to Play The Walking Dead Call To Arms?

Negan has captured Holly and believes that she is Andrea. Holly tells Negan that she isn't Andrea, mentioning her relationship with Abraham, but, Negan doesn't believe her.

The 5-year contract between Mantic games and Skybound games is coming to an end. The Walking Dead lives on, on TV but the original series is also ending. The comics (on which the games are based) has finished (rather oddly, in my humble opinion) so, rather than renew a presumably expensive contract, perhaps it is a logical time to bring the Walking Dead games to an end.

The setting for this beginner’s core set of the game is a street scene in Atlanta, where The Walking Dead story began. What’s it like to play? The question that players of this latest incarnation of The Walking Dead are going to ask here is: Does Mantic’s game capture the thrills and feeling of dread in just trying to survive against ruthless survivors and zombie hoards? The answer to that is a resounding YES! Today we’ve got a fascinating blog from guest contributor Daniel Meadows. Daniel is one of the members of The Walking Dead RC and is currently busy working on all the cool stuff we’ve got coming up for TWD. Anyway, in this blog he gives you a guide for creating custom scenarios in All Out War. Over to you Daniel… At the end of a turn, an event card is drawn and the various effects are resolved, from raising the threat level to bringing more zombies stumbling into the play area. Initiative swaps each round, and the player with control chooses where the undead enter, allowing the scales to shift suddenly when it comes to the dangerous presence of zombies. The second action of a character’s turn can be used to rummage for supplies or fire a gun, if they have one. This plays off the element of noise, causing a more widespread ‘mayhem’ effect, which draws every zombie on the board towards their position and ups the overall threat level. With guns proving more deadly against the living and dead alike, it makes firing a shot a risky move that can happen in times of desperation or confidence only, rather than every turn. This is intensified by the role of ammo – after firing a shot, the player roll a die to see if the gun is out of ammo. If it is, they’ll need to scavenge for more before they reload.

Negan stares out at the incoming herd as Dwight approaches him. He asks why they have stopped firing to which Negan replies, "I hope you have your shitting pants on." All Survivors start with three health and if you want to increase that, you’ll need to add some extra points. The maximum is eight health points, which costs a whopping 20 points! We’re opting for a fairly decent five health points, which costs an extra five points. This means we’re currently sitting on a total of 35 points.

The final step is perhaps one of the most enjoyable because you add any special abilities for your Survivor. This is a great opportunity to imagine how they fit into the world of The Walking Dead. Are they a cold-hearted killer? Are they a seasoned fighter? Has the horror of seeing so many people killed by Walkers sent them over the edge? You can really get under the skin of the Survivor you’re making. Zombies automatically shamble a fixed distance in a straight line until they encounter a survivor or wander into an obstacle, such as a car or barricade, several of which come included in 2D card form with the core set. It’s a nice little touch that helps the undead seem truly brainless, and allows for tactical use of noise-making – you can run to lure walkers into combat with enemy survivors or away from your own team. From Mantic Games The Walking Dead Call To Arms is the Skirmish miniatures game based on the comic book franchise. There is no doubting that Negan made a brilliant baddie, and there were some terrific stories and themes with the Whisperers, the Kingdom and Hilltop. For me, the Walking Dead was at its best in Atlanta, Woodbury, Terminus and in the prison, and I can’t wait to play that out on the table. If we were creating a Runner, it’s likely we would have had more, because they would be dashing across the playing area to grab as many supplies as possible.
