I haven't read the previous book by this author and found that there were a lot of characters to keep track of and I found the 3 main characters were not particularly different and or interesting.

The only thing that stood out was the anger coming through the words about the way schools are being turned into, and run as, businesses. The ending seemed rushed and I couldn't see how the character would have found these answers herself. His first novel, A Spoonful of Murder, is about retired primary school teachers who turn to sleuthing. It did not, the novel frequently hints at scenarios that could lead to murder or lead to a body, that kind of thing but then these scenarios end up being nothing at all.The background story of this and the previous book was very good but I felt the characters lacked depth. All in all though if you do like you’re cozy crime and don’t mind putting the work in to sit down and read in more than one sitting then I think you would enjoy this. When poison pen letters start landing on the doorsteps of friends and neighbours in their Yorkshire village, old secrets come to light.

The others are not as close to the problem, so don't fully appreciate the severity of the situation, despite their concern, until two incidents cause the three to come together to investigate in earnest.Boilers, almost-suicide, divorce, past relationships and nasty threats are all uncovered throughout the pages. This series was inspired by Jon's long-time career as deputy headmaster of a northern primary school. Then Liz finds out from Jan, a friend and teacher at the school, that Jan is struggling to meet Kayleigh's requirements for results in class. During the day, he can be found getting top-tier press for his clients in outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Fortune and USA Today.

When he not writing, Jon is happy to take his mind off the trials of creativity by doing something practical, such as organising a playground rota or marking a pile of books. I understand he's from Yorkshire, but it does show some short sightedness to seem to assume your audience is from your geographical region. A Spoonful of Murder" introduced us to the unlikely crime-solving trio of retired teachers Liz, Thelma and Pat. The first half of the novel, where members of the school staff start receiving poison pen letters I enjoyed, it built itself up very well but unfortunately I feel that the second half just deflated, there was barely any mystery to solve and overall I felt it was very underwhelming. I hadn't read the first book, so maybe my next point is less valid for those who've read it, but I felt there were too many characters.A Philadelphia native, he began writing fiction during his time at the University of Miami before embarking on a career in corporate communications.
