We're going to put a video out featuring the LUMIX S5II once we've been able to thoroughly test it, so make sure you're signed up to our YouTube channel! For now, take a look at all the key specifications for the two models and find out how the Lumix S5IIX differs frm the S5II. The camera’s 2200mAh high-capacity battery DMW-BLK22 can be recharged either via AC or USB according to the users’ convenience. It also complies with USB PD (Power Delivery) when the corresponding Battery Charger DMW-BTC15 (sold separately) is used. Battery Grip DMW-BGS5 (sold separately) can be used in common with LUMIX S5.

Camera brands take very different approaches when it comes to video quality – take a rival to the S5 II like the Sony A7 IV. In the S5 II, Panasonic has opted for higher-resolution 6K / 30p video – uncropped at 5952 x 3968 pixels or cropped to 16:9 (5952 x 3136 pixels) – with 10-bit recording in almost all of the resolution and frame rate options in MOV format. However, Sony’s 4K video has a superior bitrate and compression (therefore in theory better quality), with a maximum 600Mbps bitrate to the S5 II’s 200Mbps, plus you can shoot in ALL-I as well as LONG GOP (the S5 II is restricted to LONG GOP). Both cameras impose a Super 35 crop when shooting 4K /60p video. The Panasonic LUMIX S Series boasts a total lineup of 14 lenses including new LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO (S-R1428) according to the purpose. Moreover, the L-Mount system provides the best assortment of full-frame lenses to choose from, for limitless spectrum of creative possibilities. Color shading correction helps improve image quality when other manufacturer’s lenses including old lenses are used with or without using a Mount Adaptor. Furthermore, LUMIX S5II and S5IIX memorize the name and its focal length of analog lenses such as anamorphic lenses or old lenses to provide suitable setting of camera’s in-body image stabilizer automatically when those lenses are used. 6. Future firmware update The styling of the S5 II is very much in keeping with that of the original model: it's a mid-sized, fairly squared-off design with a very distinct SLR-like shape to it (compared, say, to Nikon's Z-series cameras). Despite being the smaller model in the company's L-mount lineup, it has extensive external control points, including details such as a dedicated AF mode switch, that are unusual at this level. Telling the camera the squeeze ratio of your lens also allows the S5 II to adjust its image stabilization system to accommodate the differing effective focal lengths of your vertical and horizontal capture, improving the stabilization performance. Devoted to improving the well-being of people, the Panasonic Group is united in providing superior products and services to help you Live Your Best. The S5IIX is also pretty snappy at spotting an animal in the frame, but it doesn’t target the eyes so you don’t always get the focus where you want it. In some cases you may need to switch to using a small AF point.

Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 II / DC-S5 IIX initial review

Based on the CIPA standard [Yaw/Pitch direction: focusing distance f=200mm when S-E70200 is used. Firmware must be updated to the latest version. Panasonic Lumix S5II: full-sensor internal 4:2:0 10-bit 6K (3:2) and 5.9K (16:9) footage at 30fps, 4:2:2 C4K and 4K at up to 60fps Both cameras, the S5II and the S5IIX, are equipped with the same 24.2MP full-frame sensor and processing engine, implying that, all else being equal, the image quality should be identical. Does the S5 II do enough to be seen as a serious contender to the likes of Canon's EOS R6 II or even Nikon's Z6 II? It helps its case that Leica, Panasonic and Sigma are doing a good job of building a system around the L-mount, meaning there are many more native lenses available than for Canon or Nikon's mirrorless systems.

The Panasonic Lumix S5 IIX promises to be the ideal full-frame hybrid camera for the video-focused creator, but does it deliver?

Thanks to host of new and improved features, the LUMIX S5IIX and S5II are able to deliver truly astounding photo and video performance, including high-speed burst shooting at up to 9fps with mechanical shutter and 30fps with electronic shutter (capable of capturing up to 300 images), a 96-megapixel High Resolution Mode (JPEG/RAW) and Dual Native ISO sensitivity, which minimises noise and allows a maximum ISO of 51200 (204800 when Extended). If you’re on the fence about those features and see them more as nice to haves, it may be worth saving your money and putting it towards one of the excellent LUMIX S F1.8 prime lenses. However, I would say it’s better to get a camera you can grow into. Even if it has features you may not feel you need right now, if you can afford it, it could make more sense to get the higher specced model as it will likely serve you in the long term as your filmmaking evolves. For video, the historic thorn in Panasonic’s side has been its insistence to shun phase detection autofocus; that is, until now. The Lumix S5 II has hybrid contrast-detection AF for photos, and an all-new phase-detection system for video. Judging from its implementation here, I'm fully expecting to see this hybrid AF system in future Panasonic mirrorless cameras, certainly those for advanced users. Both the S5II and the S5IIX feature a new 24.2MP CMOS sensor and L2 technology image engine. With twice the processing speed of the LUMIX S5, these new cameras can capture video at resolutions up to 6K at up to 30 frames per second. For stills shooting, the cameras support burst shooting at up to 30 fps. High frame rate recording is also supported at up to 120 fps in 4K or 180 fps in 1080.
