Why do trees have leaves? Can you find out and think of ways to share this information with others? Can you find out about different types of leaves?

I laughed myself silly reading this one. I just could see what would happen to the forest, well OK I didn't totally expect that at the end, but I was close. :P Poor animals, I wonder why they didn't try harder to stop the badger. It was quite fun how it started with just cleaning here and there and then escalated to that. Gravett's books are interactive. She encouraged the pet dog to chew the dummy for Wolves "to simulate the impact of the wolf's teeth". That didn't work so she chewed it herself. [1] She is the illustrator of J K Rowling's Quidditch Through the Ages, illustrated edition (2020) published by Bloomsbury Children's Books. Gravett made many physical artefacts, including a broom, silk badges and ceramics that were then photographed for the illustrations [9] Style [ edit ] Lush foliage and delightful characters abound in this cautionary tale of overenthusiastic neatness that delivers its message of environmental preservation with subtlety and humour. The freshness of the illustrations and the many comic details make this a very special book. Once you enter this forest, you'll never want to leave. The authors of In The Forest use the pop-up elements to emphasise what has vanished and what is left. It might be possible to make individual cards with pop-up effects or a large scale one as a class. This does not use any kind of ICT technology but is amazingly effective.

About Emily Gravett

Look at this video interview with the author. Think of some questions that you would like to ask her: Look at this animated version of the story. Could you create your own animated retelling of the book? Can you think of a better way to show children the virtues of the forests and the dangers of losing them? I can't!

Find the locations of forests in your local area. Could you visit some of them? Plan the journey there. The older I get the more I like trees,” laughs author-illustrator Emily Gravett. Her new picture book, Too Much Stuff, is a sequel of sorts to 2016’s Tidy, a quirky story about the perils of being too neat, which was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.

Gravett speaks to me over the phone from the studio at her Brighton home. We pause briefly as her young dog Dilys appears, in pursuit of illicit treasures. “Pencils are not safe,” Gravett says, darkly, as the dog is taken downstairs. a b c "Emily Gravett wins 2005 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal for her first picture book". Press release 7 July 2006. CILIP. Retrieved 2012-06-29. Can you create a book that has a ‘window’ in the front cover? Could you use this window in different creative ways? Next year (officially dated 2007) she made the Greenaway shortlist for Orange Pear Apple Bear. The year after that she won a second Medal (no one has won three) for her fourth book, Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears, and made the shortlist as well for fifth book, Monkey and Me. WorldCat reports that Orange Pear Apple Bear is her work most widely held in participating libraries. According to one library summary, it "[e]xplores concepts of color, shape, and food using only five simple words, as a bear juggles and plays."
