Unfortunately, Dalamar the Dark falls flat. Maybe it's just bad timing -- I just finished several well-written books with magnificent negative character arcs, and while I generally don't hold Dragonlance books to an especially high standard (I'll be the first to admit that they're brain candy. Some of my favourite brain candy, but brain candy nevertheless), it was just a bad time to read... Well, a character that turns from the gods of good to the gods of evil for no particular reason that I could discern, other than the fact that they were there. In his dialogue, he tells the player that it is crucial for his concentration to not be broken while maintaining the rift; otherwise, the heads of anyone in the Abyss could explode, or the universe could fold in upon itself and reality be annihilated. The night was alive with the heartbeats of countless people. He walked among them, unseen, undetected, moving with the fluid grace of a jungle predator. Their scents were strong in his nostrils. Cloying perfume. Sweat. Shampoos. Soaps. Alcohol. Drugs. AIDS. The sweet, insidious smell of blood. There were so many in this city. Cattle. Sheep. Prey. The city was the perfect hunting ground.

Otra cosa son los secundarios, que quedan bastante huecos. Pero eso se debe en general a su breve aparición, y sobre todo al hecho de que se contemplan siempre desde el punto de vista de Dalamar, que es casi siempre frío en el trato e introvertido. Dark Magic the 4th book in the Dark Series by Christine Feehan is my favorite book of the whole series, by far!! I am totally in love with this book. In books there are some couples you like, some you hate, and some you love. Some that feel like just a story, some that make you excited, and then there are the couples that feel so real and tangible that they come to life for you. They are like a friend, they live inside you. Burnt in your memories for all times. They have so much chemistry that you feel it as deep as they do, and they make you long for that kind of love. That is this couple for me!! Damn even after 4 times of reading this book I still find it amazing. I still get all giddy with butterflies and try to savor every moment of the read. Gregori The Dark One is a legend, the most powerful healer and the most ruthless warrior.Gregori was one of the ancients and a true wild Carpathian male with a code of honor and a iron will stronger than a mountain. He had been living a isolated life for centuries holding out for the hope of finding his lifemate and he had been so dead inside that nothing could bring an ounce of feeling in him.In the eyes of others a heartless demon and a monster and sentenced to a lonely existence if it weren`t for Savannah. This man brought tears to my eyes and his shattering pain was so raw that my heart broke so many times.Like Savannah i also thought "Who could possibly live year after year in such an empty void and survive with his soul intact?".His love for Savannah was larger than life and the world and while he always knew they belonged together he always feared for her safety and that someone would take her away from him.His magnificent and passionate way of loving Savannah brought tears to my eyes,i am so happy he finally got his happy ending. I love you, Gregori," she whispered softly against his throat. "I really love you. The real you. Do you understand?"-Savannah

Their law forbids them to kill a human in the process of feeding. They don't take enough blood to kill and they also mesmerize their "dinner" so that he/she has no memory of the event and is not afraid while being bitten. Dalamar has the potential to be a great character. In a world where elves almost exclusively worship the gods of good, having one that worships the gods of evil is intriguing. Why did he turn from the light? Who would he choose to he exiled from his homeland for the sake of his magic? Gregori “The Dark One” is the healer of his people, and second in command to the prince, who also happens to be his best friend. Gregori has defended his people and protected them and killed vampires left and right. He has studied and learned everything he can to be the most knowledgable and cunning. He has few friends, many enemies, and has searched for his lifemate for centuries. When Mikhail and Raven conceived a girl, he knew she was his lifemate, and he must stay strong for her. She is his only hope. Gregori can be a hard hero to like. He is very rough around the edges, believes women should be protected in a cacoon and away from any and all danger. He is very “alpha male” and he is possessive. But Gregori is also very easy to connect with. As soon as you see the real Gregori, who has lived a life of killing and darkness, we see a man that only wants to be loved and needed.

The Dark Mage summons an orb of Dark Energy and hurls it directly at the player, dealing 80 / 160 / 240 damage. However, if the Carpathian allows himself to feed off a human who hasn't been mesmerized to feel no fear and then kills that human, they get a high off the adrenaline filled blood and the power of killing. This is a big lure for those older Carpathians without a life mate, because it provides a temporary fix of feeling (kinda like what I've read about serial killers). Once they start down that path they lose their soul and become a true vampire and are under the sentence of death by Carpathian law. Gregori is the quintessential alpha male and then some! While he is a bit of an a-hole for some of the book, if you have read the first 2 books (and you should before reading this one for sure!), he has solid reasons. He has been alone for a thousand years and has been the prince's right hand for most of that time. He is the most skilled hunter and healer, and he takes both duties beyond seriously. The more a Carpathian male who does not have a lifemate kills (hunters are tasked with killing vampires who were once Carpathian males), the more likely he is to turn vampire, and Gregori has been on that edge for centuries by now. He gives her 5 years on her own, but by the time he comes to claim her he is very close to turning vampire. Their first sexual encounter starts as a seduction, but ends up as a rape. The beast inside him takes over and he nearly kills her. She talks him down and they complete the ritual to bind them as life mates. If you've read any of this woman's supernatural romance, then you know how this book reads. I lost count how many times she used the word velvet. I'm really not a romance reader, so by the end of the book I was skipping the sex scenes skimming the repetitive bits about how perfect they were for each other, yadda yadda yadda, and was trying to finish reading the bits with some actual plot in it. Now some people will complain about Gregori. Yes he’s overbearing, arrogant, controlling and manipulative. All the Carpathian males are but I’ve accepted that. Especially when you consider what’s at stake.

Again, Feehan's storytelling seduced me. She does tend to use the same phrases a lot. Another Goodreads friend aptly coined them 'Feehanisms.' She is so right. Despite that, I can't get enough of her writing. The Carpathians take the vampire story in a different direction that utterly compelling and unforgettable. I was so glad to read Gregori's story after meeting him in Dark Desire. The good news is I get introduced to even more yummy, intense men in these books. While I enjoy an occasional E.A Koetting video, reading is still the best way of learning about any form of magic. The reason why I recommended mostly modern works first is because the writers condensed and extracted the most important information from older works.

The Carpathian's dialogue is wooden. "Will not" instead of "won't"..."cannot" instead of "can't"..."let us" instead of "let's". I know it's supposed to seem Old World, but it's annoying. Commander Fullore. Old School RuneScape. "It was under [the Council] that trade with your lands to the east was established. Without those trade routes, you would have no easy way of getting here."
