Young mystery fans will likely enjoy the fast-paced play and whodunnit aspect of the game, while parents and Agatha Christie enthusiasts will likely enjoy the nods to the Queen of Crime’s characters and stories in the rules and cards. The game begins with the player whose birthday is closest to Dame Agatha Christie’s (September 15, if you were wondering). As you'd expect from a whodunnit, your goal in Agatha Christie's Death on the Cards is to catch the murderer (or escape, if you're the culprit).

One small issue- I read a lot of Agatha Christie so I get really thrown off by the pictures on the cards. These are the top 3 cards from the deck, face up on the table to be chosen as an alternative to drawing from the draw pile. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Although there are minor variations on cards depending on the number of players (2, 3-4, 5-6) the ruleset stays the same.If you can’t go, or choose not to, you must discard at least one card but can discard up to all your remaining cards and draw back up to 6 from the deck or the communal bank (which is immediately refreshed). Though the gameplay may not be varied and chaotic enough for a bunch of adults to play, Agatha Christie’s Death on the Cards would be perfect if you need to entertain a kid for half an hour or so. A fun card game for 2-6 sleuthing friends or family members with a hidden traitor mechanic and inspired by the works of Agatha Christie. Easy to learn, quick and fun to play in 20-40 minutes, this game will make an ideal Christmas present. When played, they cancel out a previous player’s action, which is a handy card if you aren’t ready to reveal one of your secrets.

The rules slightly change depending on the number of players, and I like how it adapts to the number of participants. Well, like the quote "Don't trust anybody" goes, you can't entirely trust and rely on fellow players in this game!clear and expanded, and that it would be fun for other type of cards representing a motive and weapon (or method of murder/death). Before the game begins, each player draws three cards from a deck containing a variety of shameful secrets. With just 2 players, you know who the murderer is from the get-go so it’s just a straightforward but frenetic game of cat and mouse. It is still a deception game at heart, though, so you still have to get devious if you want to get away with murder.

Although most of these are tongue-in-cheek misdemeanours (you lied about being heir to a made-up kingdom, for example) one person's hiding the fact that they're a cold-blooded killer.Death on the Cards does come with some charming 1930s-style illustrations, but beyond that there’s not much to be said for it, and its two-player mode is a strange inclusion which completely eliminates any mystery about the suspect’s identity. That includes events which let you point your suspicions, swap cards, or slow down the killer's escape by reusing cards from the discard pile. Though I enjoyed seeing these characters (which include less-known detectives Tommy and Tuppence Beresford) it was difficult to collect enough detectives to make a full set; only one player was able to achieve it during our game.
