Description

I’ve used many camping blankets over the years from basic rough wool blankets, to down stuffed expensive ones and the Snugpak Jungle Blanket ranks near the top in terms of comfort. The outer layer of the blanket is made from Micro Diamond ripstop polyester fabric. Naturally, this fabric is water resistant, but it is by no means water proof. Another option is to use the Jungle Bag as a sleeping bag liner inside of a warmer sleeping bag to increase insulation to stay warm even in very cold weather. Pros and Cons of Snugpak Jungle Bag

The Jungle Blanket fabric is also treated with antibacterial technology meaning that the needs to wash is minimized (thus extending the life) and odors are significantly reduced. Which is a blessing when you’re out in the woods and your gear gets wet! Warmth Snugpak states that it`s good in temperatures down to 45°F, although I wouldn`t want to take it out in anything less than 55°F. And, honestly, it`s best suited for nighttime temperatures 60°F and above. I`ll be completely honest I`ve only taken it out a handful of times, but I plan to use it extensively this summer (and will update this review as I do). Add in the fact that the Travelsoft insulation retains heat even when wet and you not only have a great camping blanket but a real survival blanket that can come in handy in emergency situations. Versatility You can use it as I mentioned earlier for wrapping up in around the campfire, an extra blanket on a cold night, or keeping warm in unexpected weather.I can`t say that this is my favorite survival sleeping bag on the market, but it`s certainly a great option especially for those on a budget. Most notable about this sleeping bag is the built-in mosquito net. You can zip it up to completely cover your face at night to keep bugs, snakes, and other critters out of your bag a must if you`re using the Jungle Bag without a tent. While I am sure that Snukpag has some specific way that their insulation is made, it is 100% polyester. Polyester is personally one of my favorite fabrics when I need to consider staying warm when wet. The Snugpak Jungle Blanket hits all of the needs and wants I have in a survival and general camping blanket. Size and weight are always a consideration and it seems that Snugpak found a happy medium where they can have a blanket that is useful yet not too big and heavy. Water Resistance / Performance When Wet Water Resistance

The blanket may feel thin at first, but the Travelsoft insulation is highly efficient insulation and keeps you surprisingly warm when combined with the Micro Diamond Ripstop exterior shell which is wind and water-resistant. The Jungle Blanket is lightweight and much less bulky than most alternatives for your outdoor sleeping needs. It’s warm, and a great piece of three season kit. I wouldn’t count on it to keep you warm under 36 degrees… it could help insulate, but for really cold temps you would want something else or in addition to it. Cutting right to the chase, this survival bag is made for tropical conditions (Snugpak`s recommend lowest temperature range is 45°F), so it`s really only ideal in mild to warm locales. The Jungle Bag does this remarkably well. I wouldn`t want to sleep in it long-term (unless I absolutely had to), but it will keep you alive (and reasonably comfortable) in an emergency. It can easily withstand a light sprinkle or a splashing and keep the insulation dry. But a heavy rain or submerging the blanket will result in the insulation becoming soaked. Performance when Wet Not Waterproof The Jungle Bag is water resistant but far from waterproof. You can use it out in the open in dry weather, but it`s best to pair it with a shelter, such as a tarp. The Jungle Bag will certainly get the job done in nighttime temperatures down to 50°F or so for most sleepers, but you`ll likely need to pair it with warm clothes, a sleeping bag liner, a mylar space blanket, or additional blanket in anything lower than 60°F.

Just remember that it`s not a bivy, despite the built-in bug net. It`s definitely still just a sleeping bag that should be combined with some sort of shelter, like a tarp, whenever possible. If you expect temperatures lower than 45°F or so, the Jungle Bag pairs very well with the Snugpak Jungle Blanket.

If you plan on using this blanket instead of a sleeping bag, I personally wouldn’t use it in any weather dipping below 60 degrees unless you are also sleeping in some solid layers. Well, as all experienced preppers know, there is no one best survival sleeping bag. The best option for you depends on your personal needs and preferences. My Experience with the Snugpak Jungle Bag Snugpak Jungle Bag next to 32oz Hydro Flask and 12oz Coca-ColaIt’s definitely not the most comfortable blanket, but most camping blankets aren’t, especially ones that need to be water resistant and lightweight. The outer shell of the Jungle Blanket is made using ripstop fabric. Ripstop is a fabric that has extra threads of synthetic fibers weaved into the fabric at different increments and different directions, which is what creates the tiny diamond-like design on the blanket. What these tiny diamond shapes of extra thread do is stop a rip from continuing past the tiny diamond that it starts in and increasing the durability and life span of the fabric. Final Thoughts These blankets do come in some fun colors and patterns compared to Snugpak’s standard greens and tans. And I honestly love REI’s camp blanket.
