Remember—many companies use ingredients that are technically human-grade but don’t make human-grade claims about their food. Feel free to try a variety of foods to find out which ones meet both your and Schmoopy’s standards. Includes nutritious superfoods like coconut oil, turmeric, and dandelion greens for healthy skin and coat, which helps in the prevention of hairballs In all honesty, I have been a raw feeder since researching dog food 6yrs ago. The cats also were happy on raw (with added taurine). However, the quality has gradually diminished from the many suppliers I've used, to the point where it often has an 'off' smell. I can only theorise that with raw becoming more popular, many more suppliers popping up = less of the quality/cheap items available to suppliers??? (Just my theory). Whichever method you choose, remember that you should never spray your cat directly in the face, or pour water too close to their ears, as this can cause damage. Instead, use a damp cloth to wipe down sensitive areas, and keep one hand on your cat at all times to prevent them from running off. Three to four meals per day is ideal, but kittens older than 8 weeks can also free feed on dry food. Be careful with free-feeding. While your kitten should be gaining weight at this stage, too much dry food can lead to excess weight gain.

Although wet canned food is best for most kittens, dry food has some benefits as well for the kitten’s nutritional needs. Dry kitten food can be kept out longer without spoiling and is typically less expensive.

By the time they are 8 weeks old, newborn kittens should weigh about 2 pounds and gain 3 to 4 ounces each week. You can consult with your vet if your kitten isn’t gaining any weight. How Much Should I Feed My Kitten By Age? Newborn Kitten – Age: 0 To 4 weeks Remember that the information in the graph below represents averages for healthy kittens. Kitten's Weight

At around 10 months of age, the majority of kittens can be switched to adult cat food. Usually, cat food is lower in calories, fat, and proteins than kitten food. A cat’s need for “extra” calories and nutrients starts to slow down after the first six months of life because this is when they grow the fastest. While outdoor cats may need a bath from time to time when they get dirty, most house cats won’t need a bath often, if at all. As long as your cat grooms itself regularly, it will stay spotless. Moreover, if water gets into the ear of a cat that’s not used to it, it can lead to infections or other troubles. So as funny as these hilarious pictures might be, please don’t wet your cat unless they actually need to be bathed! The amount of wet food you should feed your cat depends on a variety of factors, including his or her age, weight, and activity level. For example, a growing kitten over 4 months old may eat about 1.5 to 2 cans of 5.5-ounce canned kitten food per day. Follow the recommended feeding instructions on the label, or talk to your veterinarian if you are still unsure about the right serving size. Can I feed my cat only wet food?Kittens that are just born nurse from their mother for nutrition. A kitten milk replacer may be used if the kittens are taken away from their mother ( that’s why you’ll need to bottle-fed). Around three to four weeks of age, the weaning process may start, at which point more solid foods can be introduced. Kitten Nutrition Also, keep in mind that kittens who consume a dry diet at this time are likely to become addicted to the crunch and may not desire to consume wet food in the future. How Much? Since being founded in 2004, Ziwi Peak has consistently produced some of the best natural cat foods on the market. While the company is best known for dehydrated jerky-style food for pets, their canned cat food offers superior hydration. Ziwi Peak relies on ethically sourced meat and seafood from New Zealand, farms, ranches, and waters. All their farmed proteins are free-range and grass-fed while their fish ingredients are sustainably sourced. After opening a can of wet cat food, Dr. Carroll says that any remaining food should be stored in the fridge (preferably in an airtight container) and served later—within 1-2 days of opening. “This storage issue can be avoided by opting for smaller sized cans,” she adds. Can you freeze wet cat food? One thing to keep in mind is that if you do have a multi-cat household, your other non-bathed feline might respond differently to your cat after its bath. That’s because your wet kitty will smell a little different. Don’t panic, the conflict will settle down after a little while, particularly as your cat continues to dry off.
