Included electronic filter indicator –This pitcher has a useful feature for determining when to replace the filters: an electronic indicator light. That means you don’t have to guess when to buy new filters, so you can enjoy consistent high-quality filtration throughout your use of the pitcher. Set your standards appropriately. We haven’t found any steel pitchers that can remove hundreds of contaminants from tap water, but you can still remove many of the common impurities and improve water taste. The ZeroWater pitcher is the best we’ve found for contaminant removal, despite its focus on reducing total dissolved solids rather than removing harmful contaminants.

Filtration: It starts out with a ceramic filter, which you can see in the top part of the unit in the image.Yes – based on our own testing experience, some gravity water filters are excellent, performance-wise. We’ve tested gravity filters that can remove 200 or even 300+ contaminants from water, with third-party performance testing or official certifications to prove it. Do gravity-fed water filters work? Is the USEFUL LIFE of the filter measured in terms of TIME (months) or in VOLUME (gallons)? My conversation with Propur suggests the filter should be replaced 6 MONTHS after placing it in service – regardless of how much use (how many gallons) it has filtered… That doesn’t sound right at all. Hi, Tom! Thanks for your great questions and for sharing your what you learned when you called Propur. Let me try to answer your questions.

Filtering needs: Not all tap water has the same contaminants, so your contaminant removal needs may differ based on where you live (i.e. according to your water supply and the age of your plumbing) as well as your personal preference for the taste of your water. We recommend using the EWG Tap Water Database to see what’s in your tap water, but if you're unsure what your water contains, it may be best to have a filter that covers the removal of a broad range of contaminants. The EPA doesn’t regulate all contaminants, but at the minimum, our pros suggest a filter that at least removes heavy metals. Capacity-wise, the CF pitcher holds 80 ounces, or around 10 cups. So, for about every 1 refill of the larger ProOne unit, we had to fill the Clearly Filtered pitcher 5 times. We personally didn’t mind doing the refills since the pitcher is small and light enough for this to be easy – but if you have a very large family or need constant access to filtered water, any pitcher might be too small for you. We identified that one common chamber material for a countertop water filter is stainless steel. This material prevents rusting and helps keep water fresh for longer.Plastic was the other most common material, likely favored for being cheap and clear, giving the extra benefit of being able to see the water level at a glance. Hanging gravity water filters are generally made out of plastic and silicone. Most stainless steel water filter pitchers have an 8-11-cup capacity. This is pretty standard sizing for water filter pitchers. You’ll also need to commit to replacing filters as often as recommended by the manufacturer. Most pitcher filters have a 2-3-month lifespan. There are exceptions, like the Elite Brita filter, which lasts up to 6 months. Style and size: When choosing a style, keep in mind size versus weight. If you need to save space, opt for a smaller pitcher, which will require more refills. Large-capacity pitchers allow you to refill less, but they can also be cumbersome to carry and pour. If you have the counter space and like to have a large capacity water dispenser, consider a countertop model as these often hold larger amounts of water. The downside is the design; I mean, just look at the thing. You’d think a high-tech filtration bottle that filters out radioactive contaminants would look less like the bottle I took to school when I was seven. It’s clunky and unwieldy and coming in at 28 fl oz (830 mL) just makes it a bit more chunky than necessary.

This occurs only when you have filled the upper container with more water than what can fit into the lower container.Blends 5 media in one –Each filter pouch contains a blend of calcium balls, ORP balls, maifan stones, ceramic balls, zeolite, far-infrared balls, and activated alumina, which remove the likes of chlorine taste and odor, heavy metals like lead, and some fluoride, and enrich the water with healthy minerals. Hi, Mindy! Some Berkey products are available in California, but not all are. And the reason is not because they’re “so bad”. If you want to read the explanation, I’ll refer you to the FAQs at BerkeyFilters.com It has to do with California’s onerous certification requirements. Berkey Filters states, “Although our extensive testing is sufficient for 49 states in the US, it is currently not acceptable for residents of the state California.”

The fact is, you’ve gotta travel with a bottle. If you’re not doing that already, we’re going to have a serious chat. The impact of plastic bottles on the environment is abhorrent: don’t be a part of the problem. NSF Certified: All filters carry NSF/ANSI certification and have been tested by an independent lab according to NSF standards, so you can rest assured that your water is being filtered to the highest quality standards. Before you buy a stainless steel water filter pitcher for your tap water, make sure to consider the following things: % Of Stainless SteelHere’s the link to a very long paper about silver as a drinking water disinfectant, published by the WHO, if you care to read it: https://www.who.int/water_sanitation_health/publications/silver-02032018.pdf?ua=1 For best product care, clean the entire filtration system once a month and replace the filter when necessary. Please see the instruction manual for further details on product cleaning and maintenance. Value for money is an obvious benefit of this stainless steel pitcher. It’s priced competitively, even while removing more contaminants than many other pitchers and having a superior stainless steel design. Filter media and lifespan was another factor we considered carefully when selecting and ranking the gravity water filters in this list. We noted that the majority of gravity filters have a lifespan of roughly 4 to 12 months, although in all cases, the exact filter lifespan depended on two factors: the user’s water usage and the quality of the water being filtered. As for filter materials, the most common ones we encountered in our research and testing were activated carbon, coconut shell carbon, ceramic filter media, KDF, and ion exchange resin. Many of the best gravity water filters we tested used multiple filtration media to provide a more thorough water treatment process. Effective Filtration: The PUR Plus Faucet Mount System filters out over 70 contaminants including lead. This system also filters out chlorine which many cities add to tap or drinking water. The filter system includes PUR’s Mineral Core technology which uses natural minerals to instantly filter water.
