I’m a fan of Ellie Taylor. When I watch her acting or her stand up I genuinely belly laugh at the things that she has to say so I was eager to read her memoir My Child and Other Mistakes because I knew that I would be entertained. Ellie Taylor did not let me down.

It was never preachy, never ‘everyone should be a mum’ or ‘I’m so brave because I am one’. It was always an understanding voice, offering silly anecdotes or helpful advice. But still there was earnestness. I’ll end with my favourite quote, which while written in a chapter about PPD, I think is very useful for anyone struggling to hear: Strictly pro Gorka Marquez and former Strictly contestant Gemma Atkinson share two children, Mia, four, and baby Thiago. The Last of Us is undoubtably my favourite game of all time and any chance I get to celebrate it, I’m going to take. This was a fun personal project for me leading up to the release of Part II and I hope that my ranking of Ellie’s jokes reminded you of all the tiny details in this game that make it so incredible. She has a lot of opinions and she is quite annoyed I won’t win. Not sad, but because she wanted the Glitterball.’ In My Child and Other Mistakes, Taylor chronicles her ascent into adulthood. I don’t mean the passing of the years that makes us a grown up but the decisions that we make that validate that in modern society such as getting engaged, getting married, having kids. My Child and Other Mistakes is the honest lowdown on Motherhood and all its grisly delights, asking the questions no one wants to admit to asking themselves - do I want a child? Do I have a favourite? Do I wish I hadn't had one and spent the money on a kitchen island instead? This joke is one of those where you might need to hear it a few times to really get it, but once you do, it gives you that warm feeling from #12 with even more of an impact since you had to work for it. Again, mention of food could affect the in-game feelings towards the delivery but that gets cancelled out by some additional context from later in the game. Ellie mentions during the University of Eastern Colorado section, that she would have wanted to be an astronaut if she had the chance. So anything to do with space probably is really cool to her and that paired with her love of lame jokes and puns, makes up for any additional hunger this may have caused.

Of all the word play on this list, this one feels almost too direct and the punchline doesn’t get the payoff from Joel or the audience that some of the others higher up do. But maybe that’s the appeal of it, the fact that it is so lame that it’s actually amazing. However that feeling is something we’ll be seeing a lot more of as we progress and this joke doesn’t do it as well as some of the knee-slappers near the top of this list. I enjoyed this book (on audiobook, narrated by Ellie herself) but it didn’t blow me away. Parts were relatable and parts were funny but on the whole I found it a bit wannabe worthy. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review. I felt so honoured to hear such personal, vulnerable details. It was a real privilege to be brought into those feelings.

Ellie Taylor Height, Weight & Measurements

Strictly judge and ex-pro Anton du Beke and his wife Hannah share adorable six-year-old twins George and Henrietta. What Taylor does in her coming of age memoir is show you the reality of this in a funny way. She doesn’t sugarcoat the harder times or the times that make her look just a little unhinged. It all adds to the wonderful colour of this story. Her thoughts on motherhood are especially honest and she lays bare how hard it is but also how rewarding she has found it. Her net worth has been growing significantly in 2022-2023. So, how much is Ellie Taylor worth at the age of 39 years old? Ellie Taylor’s income source is mostly from being a successful Presenter.
