Description

A UV steriliser is a popular and efficient sterilising method that’s adopted in hospitals and dental practices across the UK. It uses an ultraviolet light to sterilise equipment and doesn’t require water. Ultraviolet models are usually more expensive than other types of steriliser, but they don’t use any chemicals, nor do they require descaling, which can be a huge bonus. This mini-fridge-style unit sterilises and dries bottles in 60 minutes and keeps the contents sterile for 24 hours, as long as the door is closed. Like other UV sterilisers, the Tommee Tippee Ultra UV unit has a few useful modes that can sterilise, dry, or do both consecutively. Our favourite setting is Storage mode, which allows the UV light to run every couple of hours to keep items sterilised throughout the day. The kit includes two washable filters, and its UV bulb lasts for up to 6,000 hours. Depending upon the cold water steriliser you use, you may need to assemble it out of the box. In our tutorial, we used the Milton cold water steriliser and sterilising tablets (as shown below). This brilliant 2-in-1 option from Milton gives you the best of both worlds, with the option to either microwave or cold-water sterilise your baby’s bottles. The BPA-free tub is somewhat bulky but it’s lightweight, with a strong and sturdy carry handle that makes it an excellent choice for trips away when a microwave might not be readily available. Much like the brand’s cold-water option, the solution in this steriliser will also remain sterile for up to 24 hours, allowing you to conveniently use throughout the day or store overnight ready for the next morning.

Sterilizing is one of the most important ways of protecting your baby so that they stay safe and healthy. Its slimline design makes this the perfect model for limited counter space, while still having lots of room inside, holding up to five bottles. This steriliser is certainly well built, and although it takes up a fair amount of kitchen counter space, it actually looks like a sleek piece of equipment. It’s sturdy, and since it’s been designed to hold six Dr Brown’s bottles, it’s generously sized; these bottles are some of the tallest and widest out there. That means that even if you use alternative bottle brands, you’re likely to be able to fit in a good number of items. To ensure that the bottles are sterilised, it’s important that you leave them submerged for at least 15 minutes. After this time, you can leave them submerged in the sterile water until you are ready to use the bottles. However, as stated by the manufacturer, the contents will only remain sterile for up to 24 hours. Therefore, after 24 hours, if anything is left inside, you’ll need to clean them again and then create another sterile solution. 7. Reassemble The BottlesDepending upon the size of your MAM bottles will determine how many you can add. For example, we usually put 4 small or 3 large bottles in at once.

Once in place, take the assembled top part of the bottle to push the valve firmly in place (as shown in the image). If you’re fed up with cluttered countertops (and cluttered everything else), these Max Strength microwave steriliser bags could be just what you need to save your sanity. With no need to have yet another appliance clogging up the kitchen counter, sterilising takes only three minutes with these handy and affordable bags that can be taken almost anywhere where there’s a microwave present. The cold-water sterilisation method has been around for many years and kills germs by using a tablet or fluid that dissolves into cold water. Items are placed in this mixed solution, which can be used both at home or if you’re out and about. The best part about this method is that this cold-water solution can be reused for the next 24 hours after the initial setup. Cold-water sterilising can take around 15 minutes to get items sterile. What is a UV steriliser? This unit is one of the most advanced on the market, and a typical clean and dry cycle takes around 30 minutes. It has four operating modes. Sterilise mode uses a UV light to clean items in seven minutes, while a Dry mode has all items dry in 17 minutes. Auto mode switches from drying all equipment to sterilising mode automatically, and a Store mode activates the UV light for 60 seconds every hour after drying and sterilising, to keep everything sterile for up to three days. When the sterilising cycle is finished, either remove contents and use immediately or leave the lid closed and contents will remain sterile for up to 24 hours After you’ve successfully sterilised your bottles, you’ll want to store them appropriately. If you’ve microwaved the bottles, you’ll want to allow the bottles to cool down before putting them in your kitchen cupboard (or elsewhere). It’s important to note that you should only store your MAM bottles when they are dry and not whilst they are still wet. Short wavelength ultraviolet light (aka UV-C light) kills micro-organisms on the surface of an object by penetrating the cellular wall and deactivating bacteria. This includes their bottles andteats, but also things like breast pumps, soothers, toys and teethers! Clean your baby's bottles and protect their developing immune system with the help of our steam and UV sterilizing units.

Simply use a de-scaler that’s suitable for stainless steel i.e. kettle, iron and coffee machine de-scalers. Alternatively, you can use white vinegar, however this will need to be carried out more frequently as it’s not as effective as a purpose bought de-scaler. However, it will take anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes to complete a sterilising cycle. How much space do I need for a steriliser? A great benefit of this method of sterilising is that as well as the bottles, you can also sterilise dummies, teething toys and so much more in the same solution. If you’ve used a cold water steriliser, you can leave them in the steriliser until required. However, you’ll want to read the instructions for the sterilising liquid or tablet because some may require you to replace the solution after 24 hours. Conclusion This steriliser emits five minutes of UV light and five minutes of drying every two hours to keep the items inside sterile To assemble the bottom of the bottle, take the base out of the steriliser and use the tongs to place the valve in place. We found it intuitive and simple to use – it even comes with a measuring cup so you can be sure you’re adding the right amount of water each time. MAM has long been a go-to brand for baby bottles, soothers, breastfeeding products and sterilisers, so it’s little wonder this all-singing, all-dancing piece of kit performed well in testing. Helpfully offering six functions in one, this steriliser can be used as an electric or a microwave steam steriliser, provides two bottle warming options, plus a keep-warm function, and can defrost or warm food when you eventually start weaning.

The final part of cleaning MAM bottles is the teat and it’s the part that requires the most effort. To clean the teat, we firstly recommend that you run it through your fingers whilst it’s submerged in the soapy water. Afterwards, use the other end of your brush to clean the inside of the teat (this is where the brush comes in very handy). With all the parts of the bottle cleaned, you can proceed to fill up the top compartment. As shown in the image, we placed the parts of the bottle in this formation because it provides plenty of space around the parts. Along with the parts of the bottle, you’ll want to remember to put the tongs in the top compartment too. Steam gets into all those hard-to-reach places, so you can be reassured that it sterilises every surface, killing 99.9% of germs and harmful bacteria which may linger in bottles, teats, breast pumps and other accessories even after thorough washing. The unique, compact design of this Tommee Tippee Steriliser has very few parts, making it easy to clean and store. The lid doubles up as a space-saving sterile surface which can be flipped over and used for bottle assembly. Electric steam sterilizers are a real time saving piece of kit. You can usually sterilize 6 bottles at a time and the process can take as little as 6 minutes. Once your baby’s bottles and feeding things are sterilized you can store them inside, so they remain sterile for up to 24 hours. Some will even sterilize and dry baby’s bottles in one go.
