Pyramid Tarp Guide – Critical Considerations

T) Pyramid fabric area (M We loved the TOPWIND 1 tent from the word go, their simple but effective, straight-forward design and high quality materials immediately made them a winner for us. However, the PYRAMID tent, with its lowly weight and versatility is fast growing on us! An image of the spreadsheet model is shown below. It has been filled with various tent dimensions that have been of interest to me. Unfortunately, it is not an active sheet that you can use to play with your design ideas. However, I would be happy to send an active copy to anyone who is interested (see details below). You also may be kind enough to let me know if I have made any mathematical mistakes that should be corrected. Making more pyramid tent design models The GeerTop PYRAMID tent features the same high quality 20D silicone-coated, UV protected ripstop nylon (3000mm HH) as the GeerTop TOPWIND 1, but in a nice Iron Blue. The sewn-in bathtub floor on the PYRAMID tent is a 55D silicone-coated, waterproof polyester with a slightly superior hydrostatic head rating of 5000mm. The weight of this tent is kept to a minimum by employing fine nylon, no-see-um bug mesh throughout the inner tent. The all mesh inner tent will mean that this tent will be potentially colder and draughtier than tents such as our Glencoe 1/TOPWIND 1 tents that features a full polyester inner - something worth bearing in mind if you intend to use the tent in colder months or tend to sleep cold yourself. And while the manufacturers do class the PYRAMID as a three season tent, the all mesh inner tent rather implies that the tent will better suited to 2/3 season use, i.e. UK summer months and warmer weather conditions. The IMP is available with either 17 Aluminium Candy Cane tent pegs (15g each), 17 of our Aluminium V-Section tent pegs (10g each) or 17 of our Superlite Titanium Classic Shepherd's Crook tent pegs (5g each).

Another thing that we realised about the PYRAMID tent is that if we did add a few centimetres to our walking poles height we could effectively raise the outer flysheet slightly, allowing greater air flow into the tent should conditions warrant it. In fact, we ended up actually preferring our walking poles set at 125cm. This did two things: firstly it tensioned the inner tent slightly better and secondly it raised the flysheet slightly off the ground allowing even better ventilation. It was now becoming apparent to us just how versatile the PYRAMID could be. All this has led me to make a model that can help me explore square or rectangular pyramid tent designs to see what the optimum dimensions may be. They may be some help to others who like to make their own tents that are customised to share with others according to their unique camping requirements. The pyramid tent design model E) Usable LBL for ‘sleeping length’. This is my estimate of the usable length of the floor space with a minum clearance as entered at line 1 for fitting the length of sleeping mats.
