Description

When installing a 2.5 inch SATA SSD or any SATA powered device into a desktop, you may run into the scenario where the power supply does not have the appropriate SATA power connections to power your drive. Molex to SATA adapter cables are a very simple and cost-effective alternative to buying a new power supply. However, they can be a dangerous alternative to getting a quality power supply, potentially damaging your SSD, internal components, and may also pose a fire risk in your home. In the event that you have an older power supply unit (PSU), which does not have these cables, or you’ve already used them all for existing devices, you’re left with two options. These options are: Ideal solution for the DIY computer builder or IT tech repair when installing new or replacement SATA hard drives or DVD drives to a power supply that only has Molex power ports This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items.

And then connectivity. Sata is a bit of a concern on this front because it’s not a very secure connection, it’s not meant to be, it’s meant to plug into things at a defined friction strength and not move. Loose sata power connectors in general for powering anything aren’t recommended but usually don’t cause problems. The other way around with molex, molex is a very strong connection if it’s plugged in properly, but cheap molex with loose pins provides potentially a bad connection if not plugged together properly, that can lead to failure. That was the big issue with molex to pcie, if one of those molex connectors wasn’t plugged in all the way, you’re drawing up to 75 watts through a single 12v wire meant to handle a few ide drives at most, which could cause thin gauge cables to burn up. Recycle legacy equipment to connect new SATA HDDs and optical drives to older power supplies with 4 pin Molex portsThis change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. To return faulty items see our Returning Faulty Items policy. Flexible SATA power cable connects the latest Serial ATA hard drives or optical drives to a power supply with legacy Molex LP4 ports; Male to Female Molex to SATA cable with straight connectors is the perfect 6 inch length for internal cable management Sata to molex I wouldn’t worry too much about, the inverse is questionable. Though any solid adapter cable will do fine if you’re not working outside the limits of the psu.
