Brandyce learned to tell concerned friends what she needed—and didn’t need. “I’d say, ‘ I need to vent’ or ‘ I need some space’ or whatever.” One surprise for me was about emotions. Being in tune with our emotions is not something we are born knowing how to do. It is a skill we must learn. Fileta suggests using the tool of expressive writing as a practical way of developing the skill. But then, in the pandemic, my best mate Joe took his own life and it turned my whole world upside down. In Are You Really OK? author and licensed counselor Debra Fileta challenges you to get real with who you are and how you’re doing spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically so you can recognize where you need growth and healing. You’ll learn to…

Are You Really OK? | Harvest House Are You Really OK? | Harvest House

The reason I chose Gogglebox is that I know that when I’m older and when he’s not here anymore, I can say to my kids and my grandkid, 'That's the relationship I had with my dad,' so that's why I do it", he told Metro.co.uk.The call comes in the lead up to R U OK?Day, Thursday 9 September , a national day of action that reinforces the importance of staying connected with your friends, family and colleagues through all life’s ups and downs, big or small. I was like, ‘Yeah, it looks fit.’ I’d just finished a whole live broadcast and we’d had a few drinks then all of a sudden As well as information from medical professionals there are interviews Stacey has done with various people who are experiencing MH problems. I just hope that by talking openly and honestly about my life, other young guys like me, guys like the ones you might know, and live with In the church we can be guilty of looking for spiritual solutions to physical or emotional problems. You might not have a demon—you might just be dehydrated. Prayer is important, but so is counseling. And while no one would ever tell a person with poor vision to correct their eyesight with Bible verses—we’d advise them to get prescription lenses!—there can be a stigma around a similar prescription for treating a chemical deficiency. Debra helps us avoid such narrow thinking and unhelpful dichotomies. It’s not either/or, but both/and. Prayer is important and so is counseling. Being in a small group at church is vital, and depending on what you are walking through, medicine might be too.

OK! Magazine Roman Kemp not ready for love as he needs to - OK! Magazine

We want to emphasise that an R U OK? conversation is not only for when someone is visibly distressed or in crisis and remind everyone that their support can make a difference for anyone who is struggling.”Last August, the 28-year-old son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and Wham!’s Shirlie Holliman was blindsided by the sudden death of radio producer Joe Lyons. “More than three quarters of men feel unable to confide in those closest to them about their problems,” said Kemp. “It’s no coincidence that on the same day we lost Joe, the police force found seven other men his age in the same situation.” He adds, “I think they’re fantastic, though. Every family has their squabbles, but what both of them have done is amazing. Here are two boys who have been through one of the worst traumas you can go through as a child – losing a parent – in public. They’re bringing mental health into that family and environment. It takes a lot of balls and I think they should be very proud of what they’ve achieved.” When we catch up with Roman, 29, he is soaked after motorcycling home in a downpour from Fearne Cotton’s house, where he’d been recording for her wellbeing podcast.

How to Respond to “Are You Okay?” When You’re NOT Okay

This is a very good resource. I am fascinated by the way the mind, body, soul, and spirit are interconnected. Debra does a good job displaying that connection, and encouraging health in all areas of your life. Thank you, Debra, for being a needed conversation starter on the intersection of faith and health! I have been transformed and the beautiful journey will continue! I really love Stacey’s documentaries. They’re get right to the core of the problem and don’t shy away from the real issues, be that economical or societal in origin. This book tries to do that, but it’s a much softer inspection of mental health that I expected - it didn’t really go into much depth about what some of the wider contributors to this problem are, and why, although it does mention them in passing.

Are you really OK? I don’t think there’d be too many people who could answer that question with a resounding yes after living through what the 2020’s have given us so far. Now, more than ever, we need to do whatever we can to look after our mental health. Because Stacey’s approach is so down to earth and she’s so relatable, her documentaries and both of her books have a warmth to them, almost as though you’re seeing friends catching up and talking about some of their most difficult experiences. I’ll definitely be rereading this book. In the journey of personal growth, self understanding and discovery are part of a strong foundation on which to build healthy lives encompassing all dimensions of wellbeing: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. Use italics (lyric) and bold (lyric) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song part Well written and researched, I found the book informative and as an anxiety sufferer myself definitely relatable.
