Description

For visits between 12 Sep and 20 Nov 2022 all visitors, including members, should book a time slot for their visit to Sheffield Park and Garden. As well as providing a 'green lung' in this built up area and catering for general amenity, the gardens have outstanding plant collections, making them a centre for horticultural excellence and providing educational opportunities. The project was a partnership between us and Sheffield Botanical Gardens Trust, Friends of the Botanical Gardens, Sheffield Town Trust and The University of Sheffield. Park playgrounds

The star of the show is an interactive model of a locomotive. Based on our very own Terrier Class locomotive ‘Stepney’ (as featured in the Thomas the Tank Engine book series), this special ‘engine’ features a display showing how the engine’s boiler works, and, as an added bonus, a special driving experience simulator in the cab enables you to experience what it’s like to drive Stepney on the Bluebell Railway! The impact of the presence of the military on the estate was significant, and although Soames attempted restoration work in the post-war period, he ultimately sold the estate to a property company in 1953. [1] Often regarded as Brown's successor, there is a surviving sketch by Humphry Repton of the park, however Repton's letters record that he did not formally deliver suggestions in one his 'Red Books. [1] Nevertheless, according to Edward Hyams, Repton undertook work in the park in 1789. [4]Used to throttle request rate. The restoration programme in 2005 was in keeping with the spirit of the original Victorian design, whilst rejuvenating the plant collections and adapting the Gardens for modern-day needs. The “Bluebell Guest” free internet access covers most of Sheffield Park including the platforms, shop, The Bessemer Arms, SteamWorks!, Bulleid shop and museum. This really is a sight not to be missed – walking along the pathways admiring the seasonal colours of the trees and plants.

The gardens originally formed part of the estate of the adjacent Sheffield Park House, a gothic country house, which has remained in private ownership since the 1953 sale of the estate. [9] Marked parking bays near the coach parking area, close to the main station entrance are reserved for wheelchair passengers. Suitable toilet facilities are available on the ground floor in the Bessemer Arms restaurant building. Ramped access and paved gangways can be found within the SteamWorks! for viewing the locomotives. The shop on platform 1 and the museum on platform 2 are both accessible, as is the bar on the ground floor of the Bessemer Arms, where a full meal service is normally available. A stair lift is available to use for access to the Birch Grove Suite above the Bessemer Arms, unfortunately, there is no lift.
