The earpads are made of velvet material, and the foam material is really soft despite not being made of memory foam. The foam surprisingly conforms around my ears to create a tight seal. Inside the earcups, there is ample space to comfortably Imaging: It is pretty decent. You can pinpoint where sounds are coming from pretty good. It is not like lazer sharp though. I still think it is slightly blurry but it has some realistic tone to it which I like. It makes surround sound filters work incredibly good and makes some sounds feel like they are actually far away.

So, here are the photos., and one more thing. Someone "out there" said this Gear is a '"V" shape. And that is absolutely not a fact... That is a fiction. At any rate, the presentation is a 10/10, excellent really. The cable is of a good quality, with some caveats, and the earpads excellent, although a second pair would’ve been awesome. This is their RAW measurement without any smoothing applied. I’m very impressed by the driver matching especially at this price point, there is only a very small driver deviation that I consider negligible. Some costlier headphones had much worse driver matching so I can only congratulate the HarmonicDyne team for putting a higher importance to driver matching. Hi David! You wrote a very nice review. Those who like punchier yet still reasonably tight mid bass might enjoy the Zeus even though this punch does somewhat color the lower midrange for some musical instruments. Regardless, any coloring is significantly less than the coloring in this region by most compact active speakers on the market. This is where good headphones can shine over most active speakers in terms of presenting significantly less colored sound. I now feel I was perhaps too hard on the Zeus in my earlier review. Even though the Poseidon offer much of the same, I find I appreciate them more. I couldn’t distance myself from the flaws of the original Helios, and I got hung up on the thought of paying twice as much for the Zeus, rather than truly judging them on their own merits.

Tech Highlights

As a small detour, I find them by a hair more detailed than Ollo S4X (€400), than Erzetich Mania (€1200) and about on the same level detail wise with a Kennerton Magni (€690). Sennheiser HD650 and lower tired headphones like Meze 99 Classics didn’t stand a chance and sounded smoother, muddier, with a layer of information being wiped clean from existence. If detail retrieval is important to you and you want the most transparent sound for your hard-earned money, as of right now there are two options: the Zeus and any of the Hifiman entry-level planars. With a more compressed dynamic range though, the Poseidon also has a more limited range when it comes to the depth of the soundstage. Although there are images that can come closer and a bit further away from my head, the space the images occupy in terms of depth isn’t proportional to the amount of space that they occupy in terms of width.

The first thing that I noticed with the midrange is that it is relatively forward sounding compared to the rest of the frequency spectrum. Although the 50mm drivers appear identical from the front, the technical specifications point out why the Zeus sounds so different. Well, now friends, let's talk about the sound of these headphones, and I used the Topping G5 DAC when listening to them. In fact, this is what I can’t quite describe that well, Zeus sounds natural. So incredibly natural and transparent that I don’t really have a way of conveying it. When something has a certain coloration, it is really easy to call it out, but when something is really natural in every way, it takes far more time and effort to describe it. If Zeus has any coloration, that would be a slightly more body and lower midrange and slightly more upper midrnage presentation than what I’d consider absolutely natural. The sub-bass is also really strong, but it is comparable to what I would naturally hear at a concert, even an acoustic one that has low-reaching instruments.

Brother to Zeus and Hades, Poseidon is the god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. While even I struggle to craft a relevant pun that includes all those elements, the sibling reference is evident. Featuring many of the same parts and construction, but in a new colorway, the lineage is evident.
