There’s a line between Gareth’s brows as he takes this in. “So if I’m a dwarf, I have to be lawful—” Exclusive Excerpt From Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus Jump to: Audiobook Excerpt from Eddie Prequel Book

Alignment. What are you feeling?” He stares blankly at me, and I move yell at Jeff a few notches up my mental to-do list. “This is, like. Who you are, at the core of you. Lawful, chaotic. Good, evil. So, for example, if you’re playing a dwarf, then the rule book says you’d probably be more on the lawful end of the spectrum, though the good- versus- evil conundrum is some-thing you’d make a call on for yourself. And once you figure out what combo you prefer—l awful good, lawful evil, even lawful neutral, you’ll figure out the sort of... I don’t know. Moral code? You’ll be making decisions with during the game.” I can feel Ronnie watching me. She’s twirling a pencil between her fingers, so fast that it blurs. I don’t look over at her. Of course I remember. It had been my tenth birthday present from Dad: car-boosting lessons. I hadn’t needed to ask around at school to know that this wasn’t a widespread coming-of-age tradition. I am totally confused on what my rating for this book is going to be? On the one hand, it wasn't boring and surprisingly had me holding my breath in anticipation at moments. BUT, on the other hand, whenever I would remember that this book's main character was Hawkins' Eddie Munson, I would be thrown off because some of this book did seem very out of character for him? Now, don't get me wrong, in all the other Stranger Things character novels there were some events happening that seemed crazy for Hawkins (Yes. Crazier than demogorgons and the Upside Down). But in all honesty, this book came across to me as a wild fanfiction that I would have read when I was in my young teens. I feel really saddened to be saying anything negative about this book, as I've been waiting for it to come out since it was announced, and I adore Eddie (I mean, I even got a tattoo for the guy so clearly I'm no Eddie Munson anti) so clearly I went in with nothing but an open mind and I'll admit, high hopes. The answer is complicated. But mostly, it boils down to the fact Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus by CaitlinSchneiderhan deeply understands what makes Eddie Munson so loved. Although delving into those purely good aspects of Eddie leaves a sting behind given his ending, the novel offers fans more time with their favorite character at his best. Sophomore Jeff has been part of Hellfire for two years now, but it feels like longer. He’d been playing with his older brothers before he started at Hawkins High, and he knows almost as much about the game as I do. He definitely knows more about playing bass than I do, which is why he’d been a welcome addition to Corroded Coffin, rounding out the sound in a way that Ronnie, Dougie, and I hadn’t been able to on our own.

The author adapted his novel into a screenplay for the 1973 film, The Legend of Hell House, starring Roddy McDowall and Pamela Franklin. Flanagan’s foreword for the new release from Suntup Editions continues, “I don’t know that there has ever been a haunted house story as downright cinematic as Hell House. It is written by a man who thought visually, who had a flair for cinematic set pieces, audience expectations, and visceral thrills that eluded many of his literary predecessors. That is one of the reasons I Am Legend [also by Richard Matheson] resonates so deeply, and Stephen King is correct when he says: ‘Without his I Am Legend, there would have been no Night of the Living Dead.’ Without Hell House, I’d argue that there would be no Poltergeist, no The Conjuring, no Insidious.” It must be said that if there is one character who has had origin story after origin story crafted for them in the wide world of fanfiction, it’s Stranger Things‘ Eddie Munson. But this Eddie Munson novel seems like it will give neither Steddie (that’s Steve/Eddie fans, for the uninitiated) nor HellCheer (Chrissy/Eddie) fans the content they hope for. Instead, it seems like someone named Paige is in the picture. Once again, we guess we’ll see. We might be in the midst of another lengthy Stranger Thingsdrought, but we do have some good news to reveal! On April 13, Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed that another Stranger Things novel is in the works! This time it will be about Stranger Things season 4 breakout Eddie Munson, played by the charming Joseph Quinn.

For over twenty years, Belasco House has stood empty. Regarded as the Mount Everest of haunted houses, its shadowed walls have witnessed scenes of unimaginable horror and depravity. All previous attempts to probe its mysteries have ended in murder, suicide or insanity. But now, a new investigation has been launched, bringing four strangers to Belasco House in search of the ultimate secrets of life and death. A wealthy publisher, brooding over his impending death, has paid a physicist and two mediums to establish the facts of life after death once and for all. For one night, they will investigate the Belasco House and learn exactly why the townsfolk refer to it as the Hell House. There’s just one problem, to get Paige a demo of their best songs, Eddie needs money to record. Strapped for cash, Eddie resorts to working with his dad, Al Munson, in one of his latest shady schemes. Two years before the events of Stranger Things Season 4, Eddie Munson - Hellfire Club leader, metalhead, and Hawkins outcast - has one shot to make it big. Schneiderhan had this to say about the novel: “ The Eddie Munson we meet at the beginning of Stranger Things 4 is the protective shepherd to the nerdy lost sheep of Hawkins High. But taking on that mantle wasn’t such a cut-and-dry decision. I’m so excited for fans to go with him on his journey towards becoming a hero, to experience the messy and uncomfortable decisions that led him to become the brave misfit we all know and love. Eddie is a person who is unfailingly, unapologetically himself, which is irresistible enough on its own. But add on the fact that he encourages the people around him to be the same? Who wouldn’t want to be friends with that guy? Meeting the characters from Eddie’s past who — for better or worse — had a part in shaping who he is was one of the most rewarding parts of exploring this story, and I can’t wait for the fans to meet them, too! Eddie, this is for you!“ Hellfire membership isn’t exactly bursting at the seams; counting myself, there’re only six of us. Ronnie and I have both been members since we walked in the door together the first week of ninth grade, and even though Dougie had resisted “joining nerd club,” a bare month of listening to us recite inside jokes from our Hellfire sessions had him almost begging for a seat at the table.
