With the invasion of England on hold, Askeladd's band set sail for opportunities in France. They offer their services to the Normans and Thorfinn, now a young man, is sent to negotiate. Their plan goes well and Askeladd's band loot the treasury of the fort and Thorfinn delivers the head of their leader to Askeladd. Askeladd finally agrees to honour his bargain to duel with Thorfinn.Based on the cover I honestly thought this would be the final volume. Turns out there is still more to go, which is perfectly ok with me! This one was just as great as the others, I am really enjoying seeing Thorfinn's plans paying off. The volume begins with Askeladd and his band of Vikings, including a young teen named Thorfinn, offering to assist General Jabbathe in a skirmish between two Frankish tribes. Askeladd's band leaves with the treasury's contents and Thorfinn earns himself a duel with Askeladd when he successfully brings him the defending commander's head. Upon arriving at Lord Gorm's village to winter, Thorfinn and Askeladd have their duel, but Askeladd gets Thorfinn to lose his cool and the latter easily loses the duel despite his skills. Thorfinn speaks to a slave and recalls his childhood in Iceland, recalling a visiting Leif Ericson telling him and the other village children of his travels to Vinland. The Vinland Saga is an epic manga series set in the very early years of 1000 A.D. during the Viking Invasions. The Danish King Sweyn has decided his sensitive second son-Cantue needs to be hardened and sends him off to lead the campaign against the Saxons. the only one standing there with a crossed-arms alpha stance, wearing armor and not some peasant clothing* OMG!! This is so good! Almost made me cry at the end :( So saddd. I need to get my hands on the next book ASAP!
