They are often known for their comedic side but this they dealt with, with extreme maturity and seriousness. This is only seen a handful of times in ‘Spaceman’ and ‘Hurikkan’ during their most camp pop moments. All tracks are written by Daniel Haniß, Pascal Schillo, Kevin Ratajczak, Nico Sallach, except where noted No. The jumble of ideas evidently yields lesser ones, and when they do show up, it’s not an insignificant gulf.

Who can blame them, when their songs are incredibly catchy – they get stuck in your head whether you like it or not. A hot contender for one of the most important metalcore albums of the year, “Tekkno” delivers the most diverse sound the band from Castrop-Rauxel has ever presented. However, it might not be what fans of their earlier sound – or even just ‘Hypa Hypa’ – are expecting. Tuonela Magazine described the album as a "mash-up between Eurodance-inspired tunes and brutal djent-sprinkled riffs. Bravery’ might be too strong a word, but no one else is throwing in entire verses from German rapper FiNCH like on Spaceman, or building off a completely undiluted Europop song that could’ve been cut by O-Zone with Hurrikan.Once again combining everything this band do so well, we’ve got an anthemic chorus of simplistic lyrics that go “I wanna share my love / with everyone around / I wanna spread some love / I’m feeling the beat”; there’s more of a focus on the techno aspects, alongside 80’s inspired synthesisers and catchy screams AND a keytar solo that leads into a juicy breakdown. This track almost feels like the experiment that led to the rest of the heavy electronic tracks sounding polished and is very much a filler song, which wasn’t expected considering the captivating ones heard so far.

You don’t get lines like “Shaky, shaky, sweaty, sweaty / You make my spaghetti ready” from Tekkno Train by any band under the illusion of playing it straight. The hilarious matching outfits come to mind and it’s hard not to start getting pumped up to the beat (pun intended). Whereas with the other 9 tracks on the album prove, they are very much in their own lane at the moment. The album flashes by like lightning during the first listen, clocking in at about half an hour in total – it’s over before you know it. The style of both clean vocalists (no screaming in sight) is undeniable and it even includes a vocal layer that sounds identical to the opening note of the chorus in Avril’s ‘Bite Me’.Overall, "Tekkno" is a very good album from a band who have clearly paid their dues in their homeland over the last 12 years and are maturing like a fine wine both in terms of music and just generally. Some music acts which have a comedy element focus too much on comedy and not enough about the music.
