Description

Headline-grabbing horror chiller WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY is set for select UK & Irish cinemas from 10 March 2023 including a sold out UK Premiere screening at FrightFest Glasgow, with a digital release to follow on 20 March, and DVD/Blu-ray from 17th April 2023. I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. Sometimes bad films can be a cheesy, campy good time but the absolute killer here is - it's boring. Frake-Waterfield exhibits minimal skill at framing a unique or unnerving shot, effectively transitioning between scenes, or eliciting jolts though canny cuts or audio cues. He's not helped by Vince Knight's muddy, shaky cinematography and Andrew Scott Bell's comatose score, which loses steam at precisely the moments that is should be punctuating the action. Our cinema was about half full, but after 45 minutes I would guess half of those had left. Not because it was scary or gory or too intense - but, my guess, and along with us, bored out their minds. By about an hour in the rest of the audience had broken into conversation. We left with about 15 minutes left as just couldn't take another second.

The world of horror has some absolutely fantastic up and coming directors and its a shame someone with some talent didn't have this idea and execute it properly. But as Winnie is now public domain, maybe someone will. This isn't it. So what's wrong with it? Well, first and foremost its not scary. It's also not funny or clever or interesting or well shot. It drags on and on with super bad acting, awful music, bad editing, bad camera work, dreadful lighting, terrible dialogue, super cheap looking costumes.... and I could probably go on.

If you’ve already done that, your item hasn’t arrived, or it’s not as described, you can report that to Etsy by opening a case. Directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey shows a jolly honey-eating bear gone bad. Pooh is no longer a bear; instead, he is a man in a distorted Winnie mask.

I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. That's right, Winnie the Pooh is making a return – in the horror genre.

Christopher Robin: [pleading to Pooh who's about to kill Maria] Pooh, please stop this! Take me instead! Why're you doing this? I was thinking that that was the next logical step if people really want to use public domain like this.Hell, E.T. wasn't public domain and they STILL did a porn film (and not even a parody version). Granted, I do believe it's from another country. It's been awhile since my list viewing....

What to know

Once upon a time in Hundred Acre Wood, Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet decided to go on a killing spree… if that doesn’t sound much like A. A. Milne’s beloved 1926 book, it’s because it’s not – it’s WINNIE-THE-POOH: BLOOD & HONEY, an unexpected re-imagining of the characters in an ingenious and irreverent new horror film, receiving its UK premiere at Frightfest Glasgow in March. Prepare to have your childhood ruined (twice – the film has caused such an online sensation that a sequel is already in the works).

By being finished and distributed, "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey" will already be a win for some (and a sequel has been announced). Some will want to see what a blood-splattering Winnie-the-Pooh movie looks like, serviceable filmmaking be damned, and I get it. (We find Super Bowl commercials enticing in the same way, but maybe not at feature length.) But if witnessed at all, Frake-Waterfield's film is the kind of dismal curiosity best experienced with a friend, to be briefly amused, or to commiserate with. Preferably if they're paying for it. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. This may rank up there in the annals of obsurdity where the top spot is currently held by the E.T. porn. The movie has been made possible as AA Milne's original stories entered the public domain earlier this year.
