Description

The RDE2 card reader is equipped with a CFexpress Type B card slot, which is a popular type of card used in professional cameras. It is worth noting that this card reader is not compatible with XQD memory cards. When combined with a CFexpress Type A card, the Sony MRW-G2 CFexpress Type A/SD Memory Card Reader allows users to transfer data approximately 2.8 times faster than with conventional media. This makes it an ideal choice for professional photographers and videographers who require fast and efficient storage solutions to keep up with the increasing demand for high-quality, high-resolution images and videos. The reader can be used with CFexpress Type A and SDXC/SDHC (UHS-I and UHS-II) memory cards.

The Angelbird CFexpress Type B MK2 Memory Card Reader comes with both a 19.7″ USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A adapter, which makes it easy to connect the reader to different types of host systems. However, it is important to note that XQD media cards are not supported by this reader. CFexpress card readers aren’t all that common, or in this case, cheap. Doubly frustrating, as Sony doesn't even include an SD slot to at least give you a little extra versatility (XQD compatibility is included, though that's due to XQD cards being physically interchangeable with CFexpress Type B).

Some readers use a USB cable that’s hard-wired to the reader body, which can be problematic if the cable ever gets damaged. Many card readers now connect to your computer using a USB-C plug, but adapters are readily available to convert to normal USB. At 3″ x 2″ x 1/2″, the Transcend CF Express Type B RDE2 Card Reader is also the smallest on the market. We had a bit of concern with that at first, as CF Express Type B cards are known to put off quite a bit of heat… at least the earlier versions were. We tested the RDE2 with an early card and did a sustained write test where the temperature of the card got up to 80°C. The exterior of the RDE2 did get a bit warm but the silicon casing absorbed that heat as well so there was no discomfort or concern whatsoever. The Delkin Devices CFexpress Type A & UHS-II SDXC Memory Card Reader is a compact and versatile card reader designed for professional photographers and videographers who need a reliable and high-speed solution for transferring large files while on the go. This card reader features two slots, one for CFexpress Type A cards and the other for UHS-II SDXC cards, and can handle high-performance industry demands with ease. To ensure that the card reader remains cool during extended use, it features multiple heat sinks. For easy system connectivity, the Delkin Devices CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD Memory Card Reader comes with USB Type-C to Type-C and Type-C to Type-A cables. Note that XQD, CFast 2.0, and CompactFlash memory cards are not compatible with this memory card reader.

Our new PG05.6 reader provides a tremendous leap forward in workflow performance by allowing content offload speeds to be reduced by 67% when compared to the performance of USB 3.2, Gen 2 technology of our current product line-up”, said Wes Brewer, CEO and Founder of ProGrade Digital. “Along with faster speeds comes the need to provide extra cooling capability for reader and card – something we’ve spent more than a year perfecting in the new design.” The Sony MRW-G1 CFexpress Type B/XQD Memory Card Reader also comes with both USB Type-C to Type-C and USB Type-C to Type-A cables, making it compatible with a wide range of devices. This is particularly useful for those who work with a variety of different computers and devices and need a card reader that can work with all of them. Speed wise, we could only extract a max video read speed of 223MB/s and 198MB/s write rate from our UHS-II SD card - not awful, but some way shot of some other readers we've tested. Image transfer performance is worse still, with 152MB/s read and 98MB/s write speeds being slower than average. To reach the maximum performance, the USB Type-C to Type-C cable shall be used, and please make sure your device supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. The Delkin Devices CFexpress Type A & UHS-II SDXC Memory Card Reader is designed for plug-and-play functionality, meaning that no additional drivers or software are required for use. This makes it easy to use right out of the box. The Exascend CFexpress Type A / SD Express Card Reader is also designed for convenience. With its dual-slot design, users can easily move files between different camera systems without the need for multiple card readers. The reader is compatible with SDXC/SDHC/SDUC/SD cards, ensuring that it can work with a wide range of devices. The ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type B & UHS-II SDXC Dual-Slot Card Reader also comes with two different cables, a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A cable, making it compatible with a wide range of devices. Additionally, the included metal mounting plate allows for secure attachment to a desktop or laptop, further enhancing the reader’s stability. In summary, the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type A & SD Dual-Slot USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Card Reader is a versatile, compact, and durable card reader that supports high-speed data transfers for creative professionals on the go. Its support for both CFexpress Type A and SD media cards, along with its stylish and durable design, make it an excellent choice for photographers and videographers who need a reliable card reader for their workflow.

But this may well be no fault of the card, or indeed Sandisk's marketing department. While the physical hardware of CFexpress is doubtless capable of such stunning performance, other limiting factors inevitably come into play. A computer's operating system, the type, size and quantity of files being transferred, the connection between card and computer, and finally the computer's internal mass storage device ( SSD or HDD) will all play a part in determining the maximum file transfer speed you can achieve. At least the USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) interface is speedy, equating to a maximum transfer speed of 1250 megabytes per second. However, even this is still some way short of the 1700+MB/s read speed that the best CFexpress cards can manage. even this can't let the fastest CFexpress Type B cards run at max speed. 5 things to look for in a card reader

Overall, the Delkin Devices CFexpress Type A & UHS-II SDXC Memory Card Reader is a great choice for professionals who need a high-speed and reliable card reader that can handle their demanding workflows while on the go. With its sturdy construction, multiple card slots, and high-speed connectivity, it’s a must-have accessory for any professional photographer or videographer. On the one hand these figures are hugely impressive results that eclipse any other memory card we've ever tested. However, aside from the 1678MB/s theoretical read speed score we achieved, which comes very close to the 1700MB/s claimed by Sandisk, in every other respect our CFexpress card didn't reach its claimed maximum speeds. The CFexpress Type B USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Reader is equipped with a USB Type-C interface and comes with an included 2-in-1 USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable and USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable, providing versatile connectivity options. This makes it easy to connect the card reader to a wide range of devices, from laptops to mobile devices. One of the standout features of this card reader is its anodized aluminum construction, which makes it sturdy and durable, perfect for use on-the-go. Additionally, the reader has a rubber end cover that protects the CFexpress Type A slot when not in use. The reader also has multiple heat sinks for increased cooling, ensuring that it stays cool even when transferring large files.
