I had a copy of this on cassette tape way back when so when I wanted to hear it I had to turn to YouTube. It is influenced by the work of Phil Spector, Bruce Springsteen and The Who, and Jimmy Iovine, who produced ‘Born to Run’, mixed the track ‘Two out of Three Ain’t Bad’. Bat Out of Hell' is the debut studio album by American rock singer Meat Loaf, released in October 1977.

Years after it was released, the 16x platinum selling Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell is to be repressed on vinyl for the first time since its initial release. These again just didn't cut it and the Multichannel version being seen as a 'rush job' to cash in on the launch of SACD. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. A constant for years in the album charts, it has been followed up by Bat Out of Hell 2 and 3, and a stage musical. Synonymous with one of the best-selling albums of all time, Marvin Lee Aday's vision and talent has become a legacy. Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. While the sentiments are deliberately adolescent and filled with jokes and exaggerated clichés, there's real (albeit silly) wit behind these compositions, not just in the lyrics but in the music, which is a savvy blend of oldies pastiche, show tunes, prog rock, Springsteen-esque narratives, and blistering hard rock (thereby sounding a bit like an extension of Rocky Horror Picture Show, which brought Meat Loaf to the national stage). There was a rumour that the original master tapes had been destroyed in a fire and this would have proved to be an unmitigated disaster.

Wow, I never expected such a difference but there it was in all of it's aural glory, much like putting my reading glasses after squinting and straining with text for 20 years, suddenly all was clear. Of course without obtaining the original session tapes and doing a total remix there are certain aspects of the original release are going to remain. Why bother with it when you might already have a copy and own one of the many versions out there already?

I haven’t heard the Friday Music pressing, but this is head and shoulders better than the Aus 1st pressing I had which sounded like listening to the album out of a tin can. He started work with producer Jim Steinman on the 'Bat Out Of Hell' horror concept album in 1972, but it was rejected by various record companies before getting a release in 1977. For all intents and purposes, it's the same master as the standard European pressings around at the time. As it happened the original tapes WERE safe and sound in the Sony vaults and so they were rescued and a brand new remaster was made by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound using the very latest technology, released by a specialist record company Analog Spark and released on the audiophile Hybrid SACD format. And there never could have been a singer more suited for his compositions than Meat Loaf, a singer partial to bombast, albeit shaded bombast.

Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. It may be easy to dismiss this as ridiculous, but there's real style and craft here and its kitsch is intentional. Roaring Harleys, screeching vocals and 14 million copies sold worldwide – Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell is a certified opus of rock opera whose demonic technicolour is fully realised in this double picture disc vinyl that makes full use of sci-fi/fantasy artist Michael Whelan’s iconic artwork.I played half of the title track from my regular release just to have a clear memory of how it sounded and there it was, music and Meat Loaf crumpled into a ball lodged somewhere between the front speakers but it's Bat out of Hell and it's great. Theres been several half hearted attempts to get round this not least with a Sony SACD release then a Multichannel release on SACD later on. It also has to be noted this is NOT a Multichannel SACD release so unlike the previous SACD offering cannot be listened to in 5. It has 3 songs that are around 10 minute long, but with such musicality and variation that you never have the feeling of wanting it to end.
