Our whole system of number is based on the fact that we have this number of digits – we think easily in base 10. This is a gorgeously simple picture book for very young children, and once you finish the rhythmic, rhyming text, all you’ll want to do is go back to the beginning .

By having this easy narration, it makes it understandable for young readers to relate to other ethnicities yet still go back to the idea that we are all equal. She enjoys looking at the picture's of the children in the book and giggles when she gets a kiss on the end of her nose, like the baby in the story. Night Noises was a Notable Children's Book in Language Arts, and a 1990 Horn Book Fanfare selection. I can only imagine that young children are going to want this book read aloud over and over, they will pour over the images, and, yes, instant classic is what I think! She has published several books on literacy aimed at children, their parents, teachers and educators, as well as picture story books for children. The book consists of several different babies who are born at the same time, but in different locations. For example it took me about 2 minutes to come up with the alternative rhyme to read to my child, 'both little babies although far apart, had a smile full of kindness and love in their hearts.Titles include “Baby, Mix Me a Drink,” “Baby Fix My Car” and “Baby Do My Banking,” which feels particularly timely.

Great for the youngest of babies as it invites adults to talk about the pictures and to interact with their baby as they look at the book together. Yet in some ways they are very much the same: each one has ten little fingers and ten little toes – to play with, to tickle, to wave. No matter which part of the world a baby comes from—born on the ice or in a tent—that baby has “ten little fingers / and ten little toes,” the pleasing refrain of this wonderful, rhyming tribute to the chubby, sweet universality of babies of all colors. We are entirely volunteer-run and the vast majority of the things we give out have been donated from the general public. From the swaddled newborn, to children sitting alone, then crawling together, and then standing, the illustrations show babies born all over the world in the country and cities, all with irresistibly chubby fingers and toes. How many childhoods would be changed forever without memories of her drawings for We're Going On A Bear Hunt or her classic board books for babies? It reminds me of whenever new parents say, "The first thing I did was count his/her fingers and toes! I noticed the same thing as many other reviewers: they replaced the asian baby that’s inside the book with a white baby on the cover.

The illustrations in this book are what tell the story because they show that each baby looks different in terms of their clothing, size, skin color, and hair color. It begins with telling the readers about two different babies that are born and then explains that they both have “ten little fingers and ten little toes”. It shows that no matter the color of skin, or location of birth, everyone is the same on the inside.
