Whip-smart, creepy as hell, and masterfully plotted, Hidden Pictures is the best new thriller novel I’ve read in years. Well, the ending does go a little bit crazy but I confess I didn’t mind one little bit because I was seriously enjoying this one and was desperate to see how things would pan out. When twists were revealed, I was not on the edge of my seat hoping for something to happen, I was just reading as I normally would. Billed as “ The Haunting of Hill House meets The Perfect Nanny,” this supernatural thriller by Jason Rekulak surpassed all the expectations I had for it.

Por lo tanto, cuatro estrellas muy merecidas, porque ha tenido capítulos de cinco, pero también algunos de tres. Mallory Quinn, fresh out of rehab and recovering from a recent tragedy, has taken a job as a nanny for an affluent couple living in the upscale suburb of Spring Brook, New Jersey, when a series of strange events start to make her (and her employers) question her own sanity. She's not proud of the choices she made in the depths of her addiction, some having life-long repercussions.Along with her new friend, Adrian, Mallory begins to deep dive into the history of the property and the suspected murder of the woman who once lived there. Mallory is such a likeable character, filled with guilt for something in her past, but so determined to do the right things in the future. Crafted by the puzzle pros at Highlights, every Hidden Pictures puzzle encourages independence and persistence that are reinforced by humor and fun. Which means that when Mallory sees his disturbingAF drawings — like a woman who looks like she crawled out of the The Ring, or a man dragging a woman by the ankles through a forest — so do you. With the help of an attractive young gardener and a psychic neighbor and using only the drawings as clues, Mallory must solve the mystery of the house's grizzly past before it's too late.

Mallory at 21 years old is an avid runner who suffered an injury while in high school and became highly addicted to Oxycontin. With the help of her sponsor, she lands a summer job as a nanny for five-year-old Teddy, the son of Caroline and Ted Maxwell. But then the illustrations take a dark turn, showcasing the details of a gruesome murder; the inclusion of the drawings, which start out as stick figures and grow increasingly more disturbing and sophisticated, brings the reader right into the story. That's why we should be supporting children in their exploration of their sexuality and gender, giving them a safe space to figure out who they are, and loving them unconditionally. Additionally, Mallory feels like Teddy's imaginary friend, Anya, may be the missing woman in question and she clearly is trying to communicate with them. I was right there with Mallory trying to figure out what was happening and why Teddy was drawing such disturbing pictures.

Now eighteen months clean, Mallory is ready for her next rehab step, a live in babysitting job, taking care of five year old Teddy for an affluent working couple. It’s entertaining and engaging as hell, with Rekulak deftly moving the story along at a fast clip without making it feel like he’s only skimming the surface. Each 32-page puzzle book has hundreds of hidden objects to find, for tons of discoveries kids ages 6 and up can’t wait to dig into.

However, in comparison to previous thrillers I have read, and also the expectations that I had, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. However, strange scratching sounds coming from the guest house in the middle of the night and the eerie sensation of being watched leave her restless. Mallory Quinn is fresh out of rehab when she takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. As the days pass, Teddy’s artwork becomes more and more sinister, and his stick figures steadily evolve into more detailed, complex, and lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old.When the opportunity presents itself to babysit Ted and Caroline Maxwell's five-year-old son Teddy, Mallory accepts. A year and a half later Mallory is coming out of rehab and needs a job and a place to live so when her sponsor lines her up a live-in nanny position for a pre school boy, in the very well-to-do area of Spring Brook, New Jersey – she is more than happy. Los inocentes dibujos de Teddy van pasando de simples palotes infantiles a grabados de total realismo casi tridimensional en cuestión de pocos días. Mallory applies for a position as a summer nanny in the high-end suburb of Spring Brook, New Jersey.
