Scarfolk University, for example, was given four million pounds to develop a computer that could record the brainwaves of hundreds of Real English Wine drinkers and then convert those brainwaves into sounds and images.

Cory Doctorow (23 April 2013). "Wyndhamesque missives from Scarfolk, an English horror-town trapped in a 1969-79 loop – Boing Boing". Boing Boing . Retrieved 14 October 2014. When this poster was distributed by Scarfolk Council in 1977, many people were concerned that they did not understand the poster's message correctly and were thus at risk of unintentionally breaking the law by either talking or not talking about it. Littler has unnerved and entertained thousands of people over the years (you probably know him from someone sharing this picture on social media) with his blog, a bizarre social satire of modern mores and 1970s British aesthetics set in a town where “hauntology is a compulsory subject at school and everyone must be in bed by 8 PM because they are perpetually running a slight fever.” Scarfolk Annual, Littler’s second book set in the eponymous town, takes the form of a children’s annual publication distributed to the children of Scarfolk. Littler’s flair for graphic design and dark humor serves the book well, with an opening footnote that claims “your parents resent you” and a “ritual henge” apartment building welcoming you to the village of Scarfolk. Littler is one of the few web-based talents whose work actually thrives even more outside the short bursts of the blog, and the creepy weaponized nostalgia makes for a note-perfect folk-horror satire.Scarfolk has received a lot of attention for its public information warnings. How would you describe the aesthetic style of the posters?

Horrific and hilarious … a dystopic vision of an England that would have given Orwell the heebie-jeebies’ Independent ‘A brilliant work of satire’ The Quietus In his review of The Advisory Circle 's From Out Here ( 2014), musician DJ Food remarked both From Out Here and Discovering Scarfolk define "a good portion of the visual stimulus associated with the hauntological genre." [23] Scarfolk Annual [ edit ] Scarfolk Annual CountryAlthough we can now no longer be entirely sure what Plan C consisted of, the image of a nuclear mushroom cloud offers us a clear indication of the council's intention. Our archivists have postulated that the council might have thought it simpler and more cost effective to remove all living things than to target specific vermin and/or undesirable microscopic pathogens. In 1972, the government drew up plans to construct a deportation facility off the coast of Ireland that could house as many as 70 million people - the entire population of the UK, if need be. The intention was to make it an exact replica of the United Kingdom and call it Bad Kingdom. Nobody, it seemed, fulfilled the increasingly stringent criteria of what it meant to be truly British. It's clear The Scarfolk Annual was not written to entertain children at Christmastime; its purpose was to indoctrinate young minds; in fact, one might go as far as to say destroy young minds, to an end that has been lost to us. Scarfolk is a quaint town in the north west of England. At first glance it appears perfectly ordinary. Neighbours chat to each other over hedges while children play in the quiet, suburban streets. Yet this provincial place has received a lot of media attention over the past five years. Rumours have surfaced claiming that the town has not progressed since 1979’ It’s Nice That During the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 a ghostly figure was spotted by alarmed viewers in a BBC broadcast. The spectre appeared to be sitting beside the Queen in her carriage. The apparition's identity remains unknown, though some claim it is Scarfolk resident Herbert Empire.

Beverley Turner (25 April 2013). "It's time to toughen up kids. Start terrifying them 'Scarfolk' style – The Telegraph". The Telegraph . Retrieved 14 October 2014. A book called Discovering Scarfolk, which tells the story of a family trapped in the town, was published in October 2014 by Ebury Press. [18] [19] It is a guide to all aspects of Scarfolk and covers the "frenzied archive of Daniel Bush, whose sons 'disappeared' in Scarfolk in 1970." [18] Littler has said that the book "attempts to guide you through the darkness by making light of the contradictions and it promises not to unnerve you. Well, not too much anyway." In July 2018, a parody Scarfolk poster was mistakenly featured in the UK government's in-house magazine Civil Service Quarterly as part of a serious article about the history of government communications. The inclusion of the poster, which bore the slogan "If you suspect your child has RABIES, don't hesitate to SHOOT", attracted some media attention.
