But then Orphan X is not your average guest. The last survivor of the off-the-books programme that raised and trained him, Evan Smoak was sent around the world to do his government's dirty work. Until he escaped. Nonstop action and relentless pacing are matched in The Last Orphan by deeply philosophical and powerfully emotional undertones Publishers Weekly Laughter. The next round of drinks arrived for the ladies—a vomitous concoction sugared up with pink grapefruit, elderflower cordial, soda, and topped with a cherry tomato. It looked like a salad in a glass.

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. In a show of aggressive amusement, one of the footballers pounded his fist into the bar, sending a glass ashtray flipping up past Evan’s cheek. It shattered at the ground near his boots. Just when I thought the Orphan X novels couldn’t get any better, Gregg Hurwitz takes the series to an even higher level. The Last Orphan is pulse-pounding, heart-stopping, and thought-provoking. I loved it.” —Meg Gardiner, #1 New York Times bestselling author When Mia regains consciousness, a visit to the hospital turns out to be a lot more complicated than it should be and, observing one of his ironclad Orphan Commandments, Evan ends up in the custody of Special Agent Naomi Templeton. She connects him with President Victoria Donahue-Carr, who presents him with an ultimatum. Buoyant and amused, the Australians fumbled through his pronunciation lessons. Well built, with beautiful smiles and generous laughs, they hung on his words, as pleased by the unlikely company as he was.Another excellent installment in the series. I put this review off for a little bit because I wans't sure what I wanted to say about it. I love this series. I always wonder what will happen next and in this one I was a little surprised, in a good way, with part of the ending. This is another great Orphan X novel, filled with dramatic moments, fights, shootouts, and witty writing that we have come to love in this series. Fans of X will be very happy." — Red Carpet Crash I want to thank NetGalley and St Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

The cop cupped his hands and blew into them. “They say he’s walked straight into the headquarters of some of the most fearsome men alive. Outnumbered twenty to one. And when they sneer at him, he doesn’t bat an eye. He just stares at them and says…” The theatrical pause overstayed its welcome. “‘Do I look like I’m someone who you can frighten?’” He admired vodka. Base elements put through a rigorous process, distilled and filtered until the result was transformed into its purest essence.

Retailers:

It had taken some navigating to get here. A connecting flight to Reykjavik followed by a journey across the tundra with sufficient four-wheel-drive turbulence to make his insides feel as though they’d been tumbled by an industrial dryer. The most richly accomplished of the brothers’ pairings to date—and given Connelly’s high standards, that’s saying a lot. TRIGGER WARNING: One of the bad guys in this rapes women at every opportunity. There isn’t a ton of detail about his villainous acts, but it’s more than I needed. I love that Hurwitz is including Candy and others in the series. I like to see this network of independent people forming deeper relationships and depending on each other.
