Description

The fairies are beautiful Victorian children, scaled to size, with a set of wings and clothes made from parts of the plant. The name of Frederick Warne reminded me of books from my own childhood, Beatrix Potter, Edward Lear and Kate Greenaway. I bought this beautiful book as a gift for a friend's great-granddaughter who is 4 years old and still hoping to find her first fairy. From Victorian Britain to the tech-savvy 20th century, the gentle enchantment and intimacy of the Flower Fairies ensure their enduring fascination and connection with the natural world. The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies is a charming book, which will have your little one entertained for hours with the beautiful art work and wonderful poetry.

Learning all about the different types of flowers throughout each season with elegant poems by Cicely Mary Barker. This complete collection of Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies features a brand-new enchanting cover. This exclusive Folio collection features 12 classic tales, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck and The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies. Mary Shelley's darkly disturbing tale is illustrated by Angela Barrett and newly introduced by Richard Holmes. Not only does it work as a collection of poems, but it also helps teaches children about flowers and plants and enriches nature for them.In my opinion this would be a lovely book to read together with any young child, but is particularly interesting for girls of all ages. We have the smaller book of flower fairies for Spring - this book is a big heavy book including all of the seasons, hedgerows, trees, meadows. Perfect for fans of all ages, this wonderful collection includes all the original Flower Fairy poems and illustrations by Cicely Mary Barker from the classic books. Years ago I wore out my little Flower Fairy books and it's delightful to be able to replace them - poor broken tatty things that they are - with a big, fancy all inclusive book! Charmed Life arrives in an explosion of magic in this edition illustrated by Alison Bryant and introduced by Katherine Rundell.

It's not every day that Killer Aphrodite reviews picture books or children's books, but The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker is very special. The book will serve as the perfect reminder of the time you spent with your mum in the garden, or when you played amongst the flowers and pretended you had your very own fairy friends. Normally we see each fairy and their poem displayed on facing pages, so even though hte books are diminutive in size (fairies at scale!

When Cicely Mary Barker wrote and illustrated her first book, Flower Fairies of the Spring, little could she have imagined that it would be the foremost title in a best-selling series that remains beloved almost 100 years later.

The beautiful artwork is accompanied by the original poetry by Barker, which not only tells you more about the fairy in question, but also shows that painting with poetry is an art form that's no longer as pure as it was. Thank you Penguin books for bring back to life the magical world of one of the greatest authors of all time! There were also several other memorable poems (for very different reasons though) such as: Traveller’s Joy, which sounds kind of ridiculous when read aloud, but this did elicit a lot of giggles from us; "Toadflax" sounds like a Harry Potter-esque swear word; and the Nightshade Berry fairy is straight up trying to murder children with his berries! The flower fairies appear most realistic; perhaps because C M Barker used to sketch the children at her sister's school, bringing the faces of innocent childhood to her world of delightful fantasy.

To mark Folio’s 75th anniversary, Michael Ende’s The Neverending Story is published as a magical new edition, beautifully illustrated by award-winning artist Marie-Alice Harel and bursting with exquisite design details. All of the plants and flowers depicted in Barker’s paintings are easily identifiable in gardens, parks and woodlands, so these beautiful characters can educate as well as entertain.I've already reviewed all the individual publications contained in this book, so I'll keep this review short and sweet and focused more onhte format details herein. Originally this book was published as eight individual books, but now it can be enjoyed in a stunning complete collection that tells the tales of those magical beings found in our gardens, who have come to teach us all about flowers.
