Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful leadYou do not need to etch or prime galvanised steel. Allow new galvanised steel to weather for two months before painting

Ensure bare steel is free from rust, dust and scale, and treated with a suitable primer prior to paint application COVERAGE Approx. 13-15 square metres per litre per coat depending upon substrate texture, porosity and application method. To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease and chalky residue. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth.Paints onto pre-painted surfaces (even those coated with weathered bitumen, tar, varnish or creosote).
