If you’ve got a need for an indoor camera where direct ethernet connection is unsuitable the G3 Instant is, in my opinion hard to beat. You just need access to power and be in range of Wifi, if your wireless network connection range is a problem, Ubiquiti also offer access points with extended range. Hard-Ceiling Mount: Mount securely to any flat surface or ceiling with two screws through the Indoor Mount Color, brightness, sharpness, contrast, white balance, exposure control, 2DNR, 3DNR, NR by motion, masking, text overlay

Unboxing the camera reminded me of how Apple put together their product boxes. The entire unboxing experience was a delight and left me feeling like I’ve made the right choice. It looks and feels like a really premium product, let’s just hope the proof is in the pudding. Surge protection should be used for all outdoor installations. We recommend that you use two Ethernet Surge Protectors, model ETH-SP-G2, one near the UVC-G3-Flex and the other at the entry point to the building. The ETH-SP-G2 will absorb power surges and safely discharge them into the ground. The all plastic construction is strong and the camera has been well fixed together. The pieces all line up and there are no gaps or sharp edges in the construction of it. One test I do tend to perform on the blog is my ‘ scratch test‘. This test is performed by taking a sharp object, usually a pen knife or letter opener and running it down the side of whatever product I’m testing. Now there are a a few key differences between the Flex and the Instant. The main ones being that the Flex can be used indoors or outdoors and that the Flex gets it’s power and transmits data via ethernet cable. I originally chose the G3 Flex because I was looking for an all in one system for my office networking needs; a router, switch, access points and CCTV cameras. Ubiquiti’s prosumer range of networking equipment fitted my needs perfectly, so here we are.

I really like that the cable connection is hidden underneath the camera. Not just for functional reasons but aesthetically too. It looks so much better and helps keep the styling inline with the overall sleek, compact look they’re going for. Overall, I’m really impressed with the build quality on this camera. Let’s face it, I wouldn’t have four of them in my office if they were rubbish. Let’s move on now and take a look at the actual video performance of the G3 Flex. Video PerformanceThe image quality is fine considering the frame rate and you can easily make out personal features and number plates from about 20 feet. I was (I still am) also extremely impressed with the night vision of the Flex. It floods my entire Office with IR light like it’s the middle of the day. You can change the sensitivity and delay in the settings if you’d like to tweak it. But, by default they allow it to get pretty dark before switching to night vision.

The Ethernet Port is a 10/100 Mbps port used to supply power from a PoE 802.3af-compliant switch to the camera. The switch should be connected to a LAN running DHCP services and the UniFi Protect Controller software. Use the Flush Mount with two screws to install the G3 Flex camera on a solid horizontal surface or ceiling. Now that’s the first impressions and set-up covered. We’ll move onto the build quality next, this is an area where from experience I know it’ll meet and exceed my expectations.. Build Quality I’ve tried to remember what the unboxing was like as it was over 12 months ago now. I remember the box being made of really good quality cardboard, the design and the high res product imagery looked great. The Ubiquiti branding looked good against the mainly white colour scheme. There’s definitely a very deliberate user experience designed by Ubiquiti and that overall unboxing left me feeling, without doubt that I’ve just opened a premium product. I just think the max frame rate of 25fps let’s it down slightly which is why I’m going to give it a 9/10 on this occasion. More Tech Review Content

There are two additional mounts available for the G3 Flex: a Ceiling Mount and a Pendant Mount. Each is sold separately.Note: When using the Outdoor Cover, use an Ethernet cable without a strain-relief boot on the connector. This will prevent unnecessary tension on the cable ends during installation. Arguably one of the most important review measures in a CCTV camera. Video performance needs to be good and at first I was a little worried about how good the G3 Instant video would be, particularly at the price point it’s offered at. But, I then realised my current set-up of a bunch of G3 Flex Cameras are currently recording at 1080p 25fps. The G3 Instant records at 1080p 30fps, so there should be, on paper at least, a bit of improvement in terms of smoothness. Use the Pole Mount with two screws and the Outdoor Cover to install the G3 Flex camera on a wall or flat surface outdoors. The Outdoor Cover is not required for indoor installations. Desktop Mount: The rubberised bottom of the Desktop Mount keeps your G3-FLEX in place on any flat surface Press the camera against the Pole Mount and line up the notches on the mount with the slots on the bottom of the camera.
