Description

A brilliant lightweight walking shoe with excellent support and traction. The X Ultra 3 is fully waterproof thanks to the Gore-Tex lining. This comfortable shoe is perfect for general hill and country walking. The Salomon X Ultra 3 GTX is so different. With 48 lugs at 5.83mm deep across the bottom of the sole, there’s a lot of traction there. There’s a reason most trail shoe and boot companies offer a gore-tex version and a base model. It’s not for everyone. As I said, I live in Scotland and the rain is just something we live with. In a few situations, I love a pair of Gore-Tex running or hiking shoes.

A time-tested last refined over the years produces an optimal fit. It's designed to work synergistically with the reinforced top arm of the sensifit, holding your foot comfortably in place, especially when you’re headed downhill. Stability and Cushioning The first thing you'll notice when you slip these on is just how instantly comfortable they are; they hug your feet, feeling secure yet slipper-like. Unlike boots of old, the X Ultra family are designed to be comfortable straight from the box, providing a comfortable experience from day one. X Ultra footwear is based upon Salomon's trail running shoes but featuring a little more support and stiffness for days out in the hills. Another difference between the two boots is their weight. The X Ultra 3 GTX is slightly lighter than the X Ultra 2 Mid GTX, making it easier to wear for long periods.Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes. Another area where the boot may not perform ideally is durability. While the boot is built with good synthetic materials that make it super light, it wears out faster than leather. Do We Recommend Salomon X Ultra 3 Mid GTX for Hiking?

Added to our best hiking boots for beginners guide, these hiking shoes from Salomon are a good choice for non-technical terrain with rougher portions they can handle well. Their Sensifit system with the comfortable Ortholite insole ensures a proper fit and prevents blisters during day hikes. Salomon uses a proprietary rubber compound called Contagrip HT (high traction) for the X Ultra Mid 3 GTX sole. The Contagrip sole featured on this model uses Descent Control lug pattern, which improves its downhill performance from past editions and makes its performance on wet stone and mud slightly better. Both boots come with the GTX membrane and a reasonable price, which turns them into some of the best hiking boots for women for regular hiking and trekking. How Does It Compare with Other Products? 1. Merrell Moab 2 Mid WP Additionally, the Moab 2 Mid WP’s Vibram outsole is made from a more rigid and durable compound and has deeper lugs, so this model is a better choice for muddy roads. Drawing on our trail-running expertise, this shoe is lighter and more agile, so you stay nimble on uneven terrain.

Should You Buy the Salomon Quest 4 Gore-Tex?

About GO Outdoors Job Opportunities JD Sports Fashion PLC Modern Slavery Report GO Outdoors Partners Discover Freedom My main reason is that water has a funny way of getting into your shoe over time anyway (see canyons, riverbeds, climate change). Either through wet grass and bushes, deeper puddles or just consistent rain, more often than not you’re still going to get wet feet and if your shoes aren’t breathable then you’re keeping wet feet. Conclusion Now that your boots are done up properly stand up on your tiptoes and walk on the spot on the balls of your feet as if you are walking up a steep hill. If your heels lift more than approximately 5mm from the footbed you may need to pull the laces tighter, or the boots may just be the wrong shape for you. The Contagrip® MA outsole grabs the terrain, even when it’s wet or slippery, giving you more control especially on descents.

This hiking boot has a mid-cut design that provides extra support and protection to the ankles, which is crucial when navigating rough terrain. At about 2 pounds per pair, these hiking shoes go easy on your feet. They are built with lighter materials than traditional leather hiking boots but are still not as light as a trail runner pair. Once despatched you will receive updates from the courier. It’s probably the reason that the X Ultra 3 GTX isn’t as lightweight as other trail shoes, but these have a lot of padding. I’ve not really seen a trail shoe with so much cushioning in it.This can be especially noticeable in hot and humid weather conditions or during high-intensity activities. Then use a pen to draw a line just in front of your big toe. Repeat for both feet and take the longer distance to determine your size.

The Keen Targhee III Mid Waterproof is a more stable hiking boot than the X Ultra 3 GTX. It has a stronger construction and can withstand rough terrain better. The exterior of the upper's materials is treated with an additional waterproofing treatment to help keep shedding water off (even though there is an included Gore-Tex membrane, it won't work as well if the exterior material is wetted through). This treatment will wear off over time, requiring you to respray it on an annual basis to ensure that it keeps repelling water the same way that it did when the boots were brand new. Should You Buy the Salomon Quest 4 Gore-Tex? The Salomon X Ultra 3 GTX weighs in at 13.4oz (380g) in US Men's 10. This is pretty average for hiking shoes, but much lighter than boots. A comfortable, controlled midsole The 3rd edition of Salomon’s X Ultra line of hiking shoes has kept a lot of features from previous versions, with a couple of noticeable differences. For a more lightweight and breathable version, the Salomon X Ultra 3 is another excellent option, just missing the waterproofing. Who the hiking shoe is for

Very few of Salomon’s hiking shoes offer normal lacing, but the X Ultra 4 Mid Gore-Tex and the Outline Prism Gore-Tex do if you want the same shoe with more ankle support or another lightweight hiking shoe. Consistent grip The stitching is strong though, and we also expect the GTX lining to preserve the waterproofing for a long time. 2. Traction We also found the toe box to have just the right width – not too narrow to make your feet scream after half an hour of hiking, but also not too wide to give you blisters.
