Description

Filters last a lifetime, so you may as well get the best. The Hoya HD3 stays cleaner than the others since it repels oil and dirt. Even if it costs half as much as this lens, you'll be using this filter long after you've replaced this lens.

The Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR is a cost-effective long telephoto lens, designed for the DX-format, providing an equivalent focal length of 105-450mm. Internally, the lens features 14 elements arranged in 10 groups, one extra-low dispersion element, and a Super Integrated coating to reduce internal reflections and the effects of ghosting and flaring. The very best protective filter is the Hoya multicoated HD3 67mm UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints.

Press Release

Do Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus and Pentax make mechanically and optically sound gear-yes. Do these brands often offer better value-yes. This is Nikon's cheapest and nastiest 70-300mm lens ever. In the right hands it takes great pictures, but do have a look at the new state-of-the-art FX 70-300mm AF-P VR and DX 70-300mm AF-P VR for much better results, especially because of Vibration Reduction. Sharpness remains nice and consistent throughout the zoom range. It's very good news that it remains strong all the way out to 300mm, as that's likely where you'll most want it on a telephoto zoom lens. The minor corner softness we saw across its range is typical of telephoto zooms of this nature, and won't be an issue for most subjects. Personally, having both of these at my disposal, I always grab the XF 70-300mm for its convenience. I'd have to be on a pretty serious job to want to carry the XF 100-400mm.

The lens does extend quite a bit when zoomed to 300mm, making it fairly conspicuous. This isn't an issue for wildlife or sports photography, but when shooting on the street it does tend to draw quite a bit of attention. However this is also the case for pro-level lenses in other systems (including the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, for example) so can be seen as a new standard in mirrorless zoom lens design. The very best protective filter is the 72mm Hoya multicoated HD3 UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints. If you shoot RAW and use non-manufacturer software to process the raw data into images, that software is unlikely to be able to correct the distortion as is done in-camera as JPGs. Vignetting is very modest and again it is clear that some correction is being made whether we wish it or not, but the end result is actually very impressive. Aperture

Fujinon XF 70-300mm F4-5.6 LM Autofocus Performance

Manual focusing is entirely electronic; the manual focus ring isn't connected to anything other than a digital encoder. The Fuji XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR is a very useful telephoto for all of Fujifilm's APS-C cameras. The XF 70-300mm is a good lens; sharp and practical with great stabilzation and very close-focusing. With a 9-bladed rounded diaphragm I get relatively soft 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light at the smallest apertures.
