The Author says to us whatever she made up through the characters’ talks: this could be ok at a theater or in a movie, but I think that, in a book, it’s just coarseness and incompetence. Her inspiration is derived from the memory of the death of her twin at the age of six and the feeling of failure as she watched his life extinguished. As well as the activity surrounding the current murders of those connected by their former employment at the children's home, the discoveries of human remains long buried on the site alerts Kim that this could be the work of two separate and very depraved killers. I've listened to other books where she has done a great job, but in this one her accents left something to be desired! The reason I know that people will love Kim Stone is because she is not a hearts and flowers kind of gal. After many, many submissions she signed an eight book deal with Bookouture as their first crime author.

I loved the way the author describes people: “The wrinkles in his forehead did not revert to a resting position and judging by their depth she guessed this guy had been born pissed off. I. Stone and her team uncover a long buried mystery and their links to current events, there is more than enough originality to establish a very worthy place among the big hitters of the police procedural genre for Angela Marsons. I’ve adapted my original review just a little but I do believe that first impressions count and my first impression of Silent Scream led to me giving it a mahoosive thumbs up. There's a light sense of humor throughout that I found refreshing, but it doesn't take away from the seriousness of the crimes. Therefore, I decided that despite my lengthy TBR, I would read the series in its entirety, one title every month. Book 3 has just gone in to editor and is due for release around October and I'm working on book 4 right now. When the body count continues and remains are found at an old children's home Stone and her team need to work hard to catch the killer before they strike again.

But this killer has never taken into account that Stone can make connections like a bloodhound on steroids. This is police procedural at its best … It is complex, intriguing, and the writing hooked me in completely. I have read three of the four Kim Stone crime thrillers at this point, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I am not looking forward to the graphic child abuse scenes, but I agree, sometimes you have to read it to understand the character and their motivation. With murders and crime and suspects, it truly was one hell of a ride that has only left me wanting to read Angela's next book in the series ASAP!The dialogue is excellent; sassy, smart and taking no prisoners where work is concerned, through to the a concern for the feelings of others whose life have been blighted by the 'facility'. Every time I thought I had it all worked out another twist came along to throw me off the scent so I stopped trying to guess and simply sat back and enjoyed the ride.
