Description

Percy arrives at Elsbridge after going through the Low Lands, even though the branch line the Low Lands are located on goes past Elsbridge. In the close-up of Percy being pushed, a reflection of a hand can be seen in the water pushing the train. Additionally, Percy's eyes are wonky. Once Done, Never Forgotten: Henry, after being teased by Percy for being afraid of the rain, lampshades that no one will ever forget the time he wouldn't leave the tunnel because he thought the rain will spoil his paint. At Brendam, a tired Henry is looking to rest. However, he is annoyed to find Percy telling Bill and Ben about the time he braved bad weather to help Thomas' passengers return home. Percy claims that "Water's nothing to an engine with determination," while the twins shower him with praise. Henry arrives and angrily sends them away, claiming that the shed is only for engines belonging to the Fat Controller and calls them silly. Percy is furious at him because he was enjoying telling Bill and Ben his story. Henry also thinks Percy is also silly for his remark about water. Percy runs off, singing about the time that Henry refused to leave a tunnel in case the rain spoilt his paint, to Henry's annoyance as he huffs to himself that no one will ever let him forget that incident.

This is the first US DVD release where the title differs greatly from the VHS title. This was also repeated on the Henry and the Elephant DVD, as well as the 2009 Lionsgate re-releases of Hop on Board: Songs and Stories, Really Useful Engines, Harvey to the Rescue, The Runaway Engine and Pop Goes the Diesel. Foreshadowing: In the opening, you may notice a diesel trundling across the harbour to the big station. Asset Actor: Bill and Ben take the place of the unnamed tank engines from the Other Railway in the original story, likely due to the impracticality and high cost of constructing several single-use engines. They aren't referred to by names, and Henry tells them that "this shed is for the Fat Controller's engines". Series Continuity Error: For the books, the story takes place right after "Percy's Promise", which, despite the rest of Percy the Small Engine being adapted beforehand, wasn't shown until Season Three. Given that, it may be a different and unseen time Percy braved bad weather to help Thomas. "Down the Mine" is also referenced. When this episode was repeated on 2nd July 1991, an image of Percy stranded in the harbour water was used for the sneak peak in Radio Times. In the restored version, Bill and Ben's whistles and chuffing sounds are still heard after they leave. When Percy puffs out of Tidmouth Hault after the rain starts, the points are set where he goes into the yard with the passengers. During an analysis of what happened to the cut adaption of "The Missing Coach", it was stated that this episode was likely made to replace it, contrary to the popular belief that " Thomas, Percy, and the Coal" was the replacement due to the fact that this episode is a Bottle Episode, taking place mostly on a single set, thus explaining why this episode has such an error.

Magazine stories - Percy's Promise (1997), Percy's Promise (2000), Going for a Swim! and Percy Gets Wet! Henry looks up as Percy talks to him instead of at Percy and then to his right side instead of his left before the scene transitions to Thomas. Narrator: It was a beautiful day but Edward was worried. Edward: Be careful, there's a storm coming. Percy: [to himself] A promise is a promise, no matter what the weather. Ringo Starr's US dub was not released on home media until 2001, when it was included on Best of Percy. This recording was also used on a DVD that came with the Take Along playset based on this episode. It was also first heard on an audiobook of A Cow on the Line and Other Thomas the Tank Engine Stories.

Tropes featured in the episode:

PEEP! PEEP! Come journey to the Island of Sodor and share in the fun-filled escapades of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. See what happens when Sir Topham Hatt sends for Daisy, the "classy, sassy passenger diesel," to help run his railway. Percy is up to his funnel in water and see how Edward finds a way to make Trevor feel useful again. The Target exclusive DVD version featured a watery pouch behind the transparent image of the front cover. It also came in a clear glass-style DVD case.

Adaptation Induced Plothole: Percy tells Bill and Ben the events of " Percy's Promise", which wouldn't occur until the following series. The Eight Famous Engines didn't have this issue, as it was written directly after Percy the Small Engine. B-Roll footage from the first series of Thomas on Toby's Old Tramway are used at the beginning of the episode. The audio overlaps on most copies, The DVD features the intro, nameboards, and most episodes being sourced from other videos, with only Daisy and Percy Takes the Plunge untouched.

Check-In

Percy and Harold and Percy Takes the Plunge is the tenth Ladybird book, based on the second series episodes Percy and Harold and Percy Takes the Plunge. It is illustrated using photographs from the television series. In the original story and first script, the floorboards were actually extracted from Clarabel. A non-sentient brake van was added in the final adaptation to avoid the implication the guard was using an axe on a sentient coach. When Percy is loaded onto the flatbed, the second sound effect comes in late, and in the close up shot his face moves foward a bit.
