There was a decent amount of drama and angst, nothing over the top. Now, I got the chance of reading "Rival", that tells the story of two young lovers who are broken, force to be apart and had no way of letting this love go only by transforming it into hate. They say that between love and hate is a small step, and they are right, this book proved it. I honestly can't believe that this a debut novel! The writing was effortless and just allowed you to flow seemlessly through the story. I was very impressed and will certainly be looking out for more from Penelope Douglas.

The weather was perfect for a swim, and people were carousing in the water, so I trekked around the pool looking for the silver glint of my keys through all of the bodies. This book will make you see where bullies come from and show you how a perfectly sweet and loving person can be shaped into a tormentor. One less plot device or one less side plot, this would have ended up great. I'm sorry but the story just didn't really come together for me. It felt too cluttered and too heavy-handed for my taste. Now for the characters, I liked Fallon so much, but i always had a sweet spot for Madoc from the previous books, so i was glad it was a dual POV. Also we had an opportunity to follow the rest of our favorite characters as they grow up and go on with their lives. Intertwining a totally new story with this element, with out making it very prominent is both faschinating and well-crafted.

This is the second book of Fall Away series and also my most favorite book. This book focuses on Maddox and Fallon. Madoc is upset so sleeping with a slut (other girls are sluts remember?) Is perfectly acceptable. Hmm.. Just like Jared and Piper in Bully.. Yet neither guy tells the girl they apparently care about so much. This isn't normal behaviour. Nate is the resident cliché almost-rapist brings me to damsel in distress cliché in both Bully and Rival. At least change the would-be rapist! The book took me through a range of emotion and even left me teary in places seeing the friendship they'd once had, the hurt that was left over, the anger that was thrown around and the hearts that were left bruised. This is a story about need and hope. A story about sharing your life with someone who makes you want to wake up every morning and see thousand reasons why it’s worth it.
