And alongside the launch of her book, which includes an online event with Jarrold on September 28, she will also shortly be filming a new series of the Channel 5 show A Country Life for Half the Price, which will include a trip to Norfolk, a county which she knows well. The book is not only inspirational and aspirational, it holds some key things that people, even in these uncertain times, can do now and maybe create an improvement in their own lives or to others. What's great about this book, is it all seems so naturally written and so much may resonate with people or may give people some thought about their own lives and may inspire people to appreciate the simple things in life more than, what they perhaps currently do, since the book shows a great deal, in different forms, how to show appreciation and also how time can be given to really value things and people. The timing of this means you could put your feet up with a cuppa in a cosy sweater and read about the tribulations of life beyond your door. It is an easy read and full of simple ideas and warmth. I vaguely recognised the author’s name from tv shows my husband and son enjoy watching. They are both outdoorsy country types and so I absorb some things, at least by some sort of osmosis.

One part I especially loved was her describing Lisa’s reasoning for living in Frome using the ‘jambo’ test. I loved that and will put that to use if ever I move. I can see it working for choosing a church and many other things too! You will have to read the book to learn more about that! I wondered why she had to fly to the Taos community with their recycled housing (using bottles and other reclaimed materials) in New Mexico. There is plenty of information about it, after all it’s been going for over forty years. So when Netgalley and the publishers offered me an early release copy of A Year of Living Simply, I jumped at the chance. A Year of Living SimplyBefore I started listening to this, I vaguely liked Kate Humble, but had no strong feelings either way. However, having got through the story to the end, I find myself deliberately avoiding watching anything on TV with her in it. Kate begins to wonder what, if anything, she can do to make life simpler. Her first project was to embark on a spot of gardening. She wants to learn how to grow fruit and veg in a dedicated section on her 4 acres of land! This sounded like a good place to start, the excitement and enjoyment of growing your own food. A lot of us are trying to live simply and this was an interesting read on people who are doing just that. I shall try some of the recipes that she She’s the poster girl for good, clean country living, but don’t befooled by the wholesome image. Kate Humble tells Francesca Babbwhat makes her happy – and what makes her really lose it.

PDF / EPUB File Name: A_Year_of_Living_Simply_-_Kate_Humble.pdf, A_Year_of_Living_Simply_-_Kate_Humble.epub Kate Humble is an English TV presenter and writer. She was seen in Springwatch in 2005, Autumnwatch in 2006, and Rough Science in 2000. How many siblings does Kate Humble have?If you’re a fan of Kate Humble then buy this book as you will enjoy it. Kate’s writing is open, honest and easy to read. You will learn more about Kate’s ‘off screen’ country life. As a dog owner myself, I enjoyed reading Kate’s country walks with her dogs. I totally identified with the simple pleasure of dog walking. Getting out in the fresh air, enjoying nature and giving yourself some space and a chance to unwind a busy mind. Now that’s simple living. Where to Buy There is also the stark contrast between 2 different types of lives - the busyness of a life that makes a name and money, but brings a cold office environment and how that can change to a lesser paid job, but with less strain. So in the book Kate started to think about what she really enjoyed, but never seemed to spend enough time doing. A keen environmentalist, one of the other areas she considered was how she could reduce her impact on the planet and the amount of resources she was using by learning to repair and repurpose items like previous generations might have done.

I enjoyed how the book is written—somehow, it feels like you're having a chat with Kate Humble, just like you would with a friend. What I particularly love is her philosophy for happiness, which is the subject of her new book, A Year of Living Simply. The clue is in the title. Remember the basics. Instead of barging through the day on autopilot, really stop to think about the tiniest little things that added a moment of joy. No, of course stopping and smelling the flowers won't cure all our ills and woes. But taking the time to savour the things that bring pleasure, really being in that moment and appreciating it, can remind you that most days have moments that buoy your mood.' - JO ELVIN, MAIL ON SUNDAY YOUDon’t you just hate blurbs which start with soundbites from celebrity reviewers? Possibly even colleagues? Fortunately the netgalley blurb put them last, I think. Or else I was so taken with the idea of Kate Humble living simply and telling us what her inner responses were, that I ignored them. I didn’t get the chance to read until recently, by which time (as happens) my mood had changed somewhat and I couldn’t really remember why it was I had it. I began to read therefore a little bit grumpily and with unfair expectations that I would be preached at. Last great book you readI’m in the middle of Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet. It is, as I expect from her, captivating, haunting and beautiful.

It was a very lovely read, and though I didn't know who Kate Humble was, I now know that would be more than happy to discover her other books! What I also absolutely loved were all the passages where she shares the simple things in life that make her happy—a gentle reminder to celebrate even the smallest things! Interesting listen, but maybe I already live simply, maybe I just don't understand because I've never been in the financial position to do otherwise. I have a garden and we spent a long time creating a vegetable patch, but I didn’t spend enough time in it. I looked at the resources around me and thought ‘how can I use them better in a way that will make me fully happy’? You can feel a bit disconnected and that we are like flotsam and jetsam being cast around.”

I’d still like to see any city/suburban working mums with kids under ten who can’t disappear off to the country and home-school them take up any of these ideas (other than an allotment). Now that would be a book worth reading*. Her last book, Thinking on My Feet, was shortlisted for both the Wainwright Prize and the Edward Stanford Travel Memoir of the Year. A year of Living Simply by Kate Humble was released in 2020. Where to Find Kate Online Kate was born as Katherine Humble on Dec 12, 1968, in Wimbledon, London, England. Her ethnicity is English. I particularly enjoyed that chapters which highlighted the challenges of increasing sustainability within the Western world, and how there is much to learn from other communities who have found solutions to this concern. It is a strong reminder that nature can give us so much, if only we know how to use what is available. Although the author uses her own experiences throughout, the content of which relies much more heavily on the relationships she built with others and the wisdom that they have passed on. Unexpectedly I was very busy doing five different series. My husband is a cameraman and director and we ended up doing a lot of work and I was very grateful to get to do some lovely projects, including Weekend Workshop for Discovery, which was about upcycling.
