Why did she have a blue shadow (which is fine, but really highlighted the fact there was only one pink shadow in the book)? I love how the story deals with the challenge of having a parent who doesn’t agree with your clothing choice and then how this develops into the parent realising they were wrong and in the end changing their appearance to show solidarity. There are no set gender roles because we are all capable of doing and wearing whatever we feel best represents us. My Shadow is Pink is a beautifully written rhyming story of love and self-acceptance that touches on the subjects of gender identity, equality and diversity.

His books have appeared on numerous best-seller lists, as well as being shortlisted for ABIA Children’s Book of the Year and CBCA Notable Picture Book of the Year.Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. When he gets home from school, his father approaches him wearing a dress and explains that he knows understands the pink shadow.

This is a truly enlightening book about accepting individuality and a must have for any child’s bookshelf. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms - but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation. he soon learns (through the support of his dad) that everyone has a shadow that they sometimes feel they need to hide. The pink shadow likes things that are for “girls only” and “not for boys,” but that is what the little boy likes best. Not sure I like the pink/blue dichotomy, because it did feel like it was reinforcing the gender binary and thus undermining the central thesis of the text.

It is a text that challenges gender stereotypes and is inclusive in terms of representing the LGBTQ+ community. However, the boy has an irrepressible pink shadow, and loves ponies and books and pink toys, princesses, fairies, and things 'not for boys'. This is an important book for a new generation of children (and adults alike) which exemplifies the concepts of unconditional love, respect and positive parenting. The boy’s pink shadow, though, is his very being, and he must learn to love it and live with it and go back to school proud of his different-ness. The story, My Shadow is Pink by Scott Stuart, is shared and children discuss the events before going on to offer advice to the main character.
