Why did she have a blue shadow (which is fine, but really highlighted the fact there was only one pink shadow in the book)? I love how the story deals with the challenge of having a parent who doesn’t agree with your clothing choice and then how this develops into the parent realising they were wrong and in the end changing their appearance to show solidarity. There are no set gender roles because we are all capable of doing and wearing whatever we feel best represents us. My Shadow is Pink is a beautifully written rhyming story of love and self-acceptance that touches on the subjects of gender identity, equality and diversity.
