Description

In the beginning of the treatment (on day 1) you can double the first dose and then continue with a single dose after each bowel movement. Maximum 8 doses on the first day. Yes, Enterosgel is safe for children and is well-tolerated. Enterosgel has an excellent tolerability and safety record during 30 years of use. There have been no reports of severe side effects. The clinical studies in children have shown the effectiveness and safety of the product. For children 1-3 years old it is advisable to consult a doctor prior to use of Enterosgel. Enterosgel has been found to be particularly effective in managing symptoms associated with IBS. By eliminating toxins, allergens, and harmful bacteria from the gut, Enterosgel helps to reduce inflammation and restore normal gut function. Many IBS sufferers have experienced significant relief from symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, and irregular bowel movements after using Enterosgel. Is Enterosgel Easy To Use? These findings are consistent with previously published data from three studies of acute intestinal infection in children. 8–10 Diarrhoea resolved more rapidly in patients treated with Enterosgel compared with standard care 8 or antibiotic and standard care. 9 In a randomised prospective open comparative study of the intestinal adsorbents, Enterosgel, Diosmectite and Kaolin, there were no statistically significant differences between the groups for the duration of diarrhoea. Other studies have shown that Enterosgel use in newborns with rotavirus infection can reduce the duration of diarrhoea by 1.4 times, 11 and in antibiotic-associated diarrhoea in adults, result in a decrease in length of hospital stay. 12 At the start of treatment, you can double the first dose and then continue with the single dose after each bowel movement from 3 to 6 times a day. Maximum 8 doses on the first day. Continue taking an Enterosgel dose 1 to 3 times a day during the following 3-4 days until your bowel movements return to normal.

Enterosgel does not contain any active pharmaceutical ingredients and can be used alongside other treatments. It is recommended to take Enterosgel 2 hours before or after taking other medications. However, do not take Enterosgel if you are currently taking modified-released orally administrated medications. There were no statistically significant differences between groups for secondary outcomes, that is, the duration of diarrhoea defined as the time until the last liquid stool, percentage of patients with diarrhoea resolved from 12 hours to day 3, stool frequency or duration of nausea, vomiting, fever or abdominal pain. However, there was a trend towards shorter duration in the resolution of diarrhoea in the Enterosgel group (25.3 hours vs 38.4 hours), although this was not statistically significant (p=0.20), possibly due to being underpowered. Enterosgel ® is not contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. Enterosgel is an oral adsorbent, typical of several materials, such as charcoal, clay, silica-based materials and dietary fibres used to treat poisoning and different diseases, such as diarrhoea. 15 The therapeutic mode of action of Enterosgel may occur through the adsorption of bacterial toxins known causes of diarrhoea followed by complete removal from the body. In-vitro studies have demonstrated Enterosgel’s capacity for Escherichia coli endotoxin, bacterial enterotoxins Clostridium difficile toxin A and B, and Shigella toxin 16 and staphylococcal enterotoxins A and B. 17 Other mechanisms may include creation of an adverse environment for pathogenic microorganisms, 18 immunocorrection 19 and inhibiting viral replication, 20 primarily through physical adsorption. A possible benefit of Enterosgel use is in reducing the level of complications of diarrhoea-related bacterial infection. Prospective studies have shown that up to 36% of intestinal infections can be followed by prolonged post-infective irritable bowel syndrome. 21 Thus, treatment with Enterosgel could offer a reduction in secondary care admissions, and financial burden on the health service. However, a large-scale study is recommended with health economics evaluation before introducing Enterosgel onto the UK’s drug tariff.

Enterosgel is also used as an integral part of treatment in children and adults with atopic dermatitis, as researchers have found these patients also have increased blood levels of endotoxins. Use of Enterosgel (at the appropriate dose for age) as part of a complex, anti-allergy, treatment regime can reduce the level of toxins and pathogens in the gut to improve skin condition and overall health.Enterosgel was developed in 1980’s and has been available as an over-the-counter treatment since 1996 in Europe. Since that time millions of people have used Enterosgel worldwide. The recommended dosage for adults is 1 sachet 3 times per day. Take each sachet with 100ml water or a cold drink and always take it 1-2 hours before or after a main meal. The recommended dosage for children aged 3-5 is 1/3 sachet 3 times per day. For children aged 5 or older, the recommended dosage is ½-1 sachet 3 times per day. Side Effects In case of long-term diarrhoea you should consult a doctor to obtain a diagnosis of the underlining condition before taking ENTEROSGEL®. In children, treatment of diarrhoea should be accompanied by plenty of fluids which may include an oral rehydration solution (ORS) to avoid dehydration. In adults, it is advisable to consume water or an ORS during the treatment with ENTEROSGEL® to assure proper hydration. May cause nausea, constipation. In case of severe renal and/or liver failure, aversion towards the medicinal product may appear. Overdose If your life is ruled by irritable bowel syndrome, or other conditions that cause diarrhoea, you may find Enterosgel can transform your ability to take part in normal daily activities.

The gel looks slightly cloudy and feels slightly powdery in the mouth but is easy to take – either on a spoon or stirred into water. Prevention of chronic intoxications in workers exposed to health and safety hazards (occupational intoxication by chemical agents of polytropic action, xenobiotics, incorporated radionuclides, lead compounds, mercury, arsenic, petroleum products, organic solvents, nitrogen oxides, carbon, fluorides, salts of heavy metals). The recommended daily dose is dependent on your bowel movements and symptoms. If you miss a dose you can take it as soon as you remember, we advise that you follow the dose listed in the Instructions for use. This was a randomised, controlled, multicentre pragmatic study to assess efficacy, tolerability and safety of Enterosgel in the treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults compared with standard care. In line with many medical device studies, the use of a placebo is rare, most studies compare to approved therapies. The specific gel-like formulation and organoleptic properties of Enterosgel are difficult to simulate in a placebo, which is both safe and has no impact on the study outcomes. Hence, this was a pragmatic study utilising patient-reported outcomes compared with NICE guidance standard of care.

For children 15+ and adults: 15g to 22.5g (≈ 1 tablespoon or 1–1.5 sachet) diluted in 200 ml of water 3 times a day. Enterosgel just contains an organic mineral and purified water. It does not contain anything else so is free from drugs, preservatives, colouring, gluten, lactose, flavours or sweeteners, and does not have a taste. Stir the necessary amount of the medicinal product in a glass of water (ratio 1:3) at room temperature and drink the mixture, or take the medicinal product orally and wash it down with water. Enterosgel ® can be used in complex therapy with other drugs, provided a time interval of 1-2 hours is observed before or after the intake of other medicinal products. Pregnancy and lactation

Using Enterosgel offers a range of benefits for those seeking to improve their digestive health. Here are some key advantages of using Enterosgel: Enterosgel is free from preservatives, gluten, sugar, sweeteners, lactose, fat, flavours, colouring, plant or animal-derived ingredients. This study had limitations namely that the median duration of diarrhoea prior to randomisation was 86 hours (min–max: 7–690) as there was no upper limit in the exclusion criteria. The Department of Health guidance for adults with acute diarrhoea is to only visit their GP if they have diarrhoea for more than 7 days. The delay could have impacted on the measured efficacy of the treatment. The secondary outcome diarrhoea duration until the last liquid stool was only available for those patients who had a liquid stool after randomisation and resulted in an underpowered sample size, which may have contributed to the non-significance. These may have been avoided by capturing patients at an earlier stage; for example, from pharmacies, before patients made an appointment with their GP. This study was not placebo-controlled, although it was compared with current recommended standard of care, which can be justified for studies wanting to provide evidence of improved efficacy of a new therapy over an existing therapy. 22 Moreover, outcomes were standardised to minimise any bias and based on patient-reported outcomes. Enterosgel is a safe and drug free treatment with a brilliant safety history over 30 years and no reports of severe adverse events. There are no systemic side effects from taking Enterosgel. Rare possible side effects are constipation or nausea, which can be also due to the underlining condition (e.g. IBS, stomach or vomiting bugs). During treatment of chronic IBS diarrhoea stop taking Enterosgel if you do not have a bowel movement for 1-2 days and increase intake of water and continue the treatment after the next bowel movement.

Instructions

Enterosgel ® has a porous structure of hydrophobic organic silicon matrix (molecular sponge) that sorbs mostly medium molecular toxic metabolites (m.m. 70–1,000). The medicinal product has pronounced sorption and detoxification properties. In the intestinal lumen, it binds endogenous and exogenous toxic substances of various nature, including bacteria and bacterial toxins, antigens, food allergens, drugs and poisons, salts of heavy metals, radionuclides, alcohol and removes them from the body. Enterosgel® also sorbs some metabolic waste, including excess bilirubin, urea, cholesterol and lipid complexes, as well as metabolites responsible for endogenous toxicosis. Enterosgel ® does not reduce absorption of vitamins and trace elements, it helps restore the damaged intestinal microflora. Enterosgel ® does not affect gastrointestinal motor function. Pharmacokinetics In adults with diarrhoea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, Enterosgel normalised stool frequency in almost 50% of people, with normal stool form and decreased pain severity. Treatment also significantly increased the number of beneficial probiotic bacteria (bifidobacteria) and reduced the presence of harmful bacteria (enterotoxigenic E. coli).
