A 2018 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students: K-12 (National Science Teachers Association and the Children's Book Council)— NSTA-CBC From the Publisher The Street Beneath My Feet written by Charlotte Guillain and illustrated by Yuval Zommer is an enchanting non-fiction book about what goes on underground. I was inspired to read this book by my six year old son. There has been a lot of digging work going on in our village recently. My son loves to wonder over to these massive holes and together we would peer down. He observed different coloured layers, spotted bits of broken glass and apparently he even spied a dinosaur fossil once! There followed many ‘why’ questions which I admitted not knowing the answers to. So together we embarked on some research with this wonderful book. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Description Description This award-winning, double-sided foldout book takes you on a fascinating journey down through the layers of the Earth, all the way to the planet’s core and out the other side. When you’re out walking around, whether on the city streets or a country trail, there’s always so much to see and hear. But do you ever stop and look down? Have you ever wondered what’s going on deep in the ground under your feet? Typical highrise building foundations - how far to they typically go? Car parks? As low as the subway, or lower?

everything paleological or archaeological should be the most common denominator: what's the most common artefacts of the era? Roman coins stand up well (coin hoards would have been cool in foil!), arrowheads/napped flint. This is an informative fascinating book describing-the many layers of earth and what "lies beneath our feet"!Written with children in mind, many adults will find this fascinating as well! Charlotte Guillain lives in Oxfordshire, UK. She writes fiction and non-fiction for children, including the picture book Spaghetti with the Yeti, which was shortlisted for Oscar’s First Book Prize 2014 and has featured in CBeebies Bedtime Stories. The Street Beneath My Feet, Charlotte’s first title for words & pictures, was shortlisted for the UKLA Book Awards 2018 and named an ALSC Notable Children’s Book 2018 in the All Ages category, as well as being selected by the Guardian as one of 15 ‘modern classics’. A) This book is about the underground like the sewer, electricity cables, living things, water pipes, etc. Under the umbrella of things beneath your feet, there are multiple parts. Throughout the book, it goes into detail a few main parts of things below the ground that effects the above ground world. Takes readers on a journey to the centre of the earth, layer by layer, it's imaginatively conceived for budding geologists aged six and above' * New Statesman *

Children are introduced to a variety of scientific ideas in the book, including plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, and fossils. The interconnection of the Earth's systems and the manner in which human activities can have an impact on the ecosystem are also highlighted.

I especially love The Street Beneath My Feet because it does not lose sight of it's big picture goal. There is a substantial amount of information but not so much as to detract from the contextual nature of the book. We clearly see how the layers interrelate. If you so wished, it is the perfect springboard to carry out more detailed research into specific underground layers or time periods. Indeed there are many cross-curricular links possible with this book especially geography, science, history or even DT. Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc.)? Explore even more of the world with The Skies Above My Eyes (August 2018) and The World Around Me (October 2020), companion books from the Look Closer series. It begins with some great questions encouraging the reader to ignore the busyness and distractions of above ground and to ponder on what is happening below ground. Then comes an invitation to “take a peek” and our journey to the centre of the earth – continuing through the earth’s core, popping out on the other side – has begun. Mixing urban and rural settings, covering subjects such as geology, archaeology and natural history, The Street Beneath My Feetoffers children the opportunity to explore their world through a detailed learning experience. And its fold-out, 'laperello' style, which extends to 2.5 metres in length, is ideal for spreading out on the floor to pore over for hours. About This Edition ISBN: Robo-parents Diode and Lugnut present daughter Cathode with a new little brother—who requires, unfortunately, some assembly. Een mooi, prachtig uitklapbaar boek wat je op een heerlijke reis meeneemt door de aarde, op naar de kern van onze planeet, en dan weer terug.
