The writing was a bit choppy, there wasn’t a lot of character development, and there were a few issues with plot continuity. A surprise it was when I found myself feeling okay as I read further, though a few things still irked me. Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always – always – guard your heart. There were a lot of elements to this story that just didn't make sense or required more explanation. We don’t even understand how she got back (at least I didn’t—I might be the only one though, so I won’t dwell on this.

I didn't hate the heroine which was a surprise bcz i usually hate NA heroines bcz they're all like "oh ik everything ill kill everyone" but actually never does it. Still feeling woozy from her wounds getting infected, a vampire she’d not noticed, had helped heal her, making her feel the heat in unholy places in the process. Oh I’m a princess of a country but I’m like not a normal princess or girl because I’ve been trained to fight and I can handle myself and I’m capable. There, I sank to the ground to rest beneath the red sky of Revekka, and I knew this was the pain that would make me into a monster.

The only hard part now is the book hangover I have to deal with—and settling in for the wait to the sequel! The Olympians decide to intervene and PersephonE suddenly finds that the ancient gods are in control of her future, divided as they are. Isolde was supposed to be queen of Lara, so I feel like her father would respect her enough to have a conversation about all this. King of Battle and Blood nos cuenta la historia de Isolde, la heredera de un reino, que se ve obligada a casarse con el rey de los vampiros, Aleksandr. Brie finds herself caught between two princes and two destinies while the future of the fae realm hangs in the balance.

But I am left to wonder if Scarlett edits her own work, or she just doesn't have a good one, because a lot of the mistakes were obvious and avoidable.A pesar del odio que hay allí, Isolde y Aleksandr sienten una conexión innegable entre ellos y pronto le darán rienda suelta a sus pasiones, pero, claro, detrás de todo esto hay un secreto que tendrá que salir a la luz eventualmente. A bit of teasing never goes amiss and would probably have grabbed another couple of stars from me, let's not lie. Clair goes on to describe several spoiler-y scenes from different points in Aidan and Isolde’s relationship and how their changing reactions toward and treatment of one another illustrate the changing depth of their connection. I really liked her in the first few chapters; she was strong, and independent, and saying how she wanted to rule without having to marry because she was raised to be a good ruler… Then I stopped liking her when she started traveling with Adrian and his vampires because she couldn’t stop acting like a jealous teen and she was so contradictory! And, to be honest, there’s something to be said for the whole broody, eternally handsome Goth boy thing, complete with killer cheekbones and a capacity to love that is as potentially deadly as it is swoon-worthy. But when Adrian rides up to her kingdom intent on conquering it, she is left with a choice - marry him, and her father may remain king under Adrian's rule, or her people will be slaughtered when the battle begins.First off, the plot and action in King of Battle and Blood was fast-paced and Adrian and Isolde’s romance was the opposite of a slow burn! As a seasoned fighter, she defeated the filthy creature of course, suffering just a few scratches that were healed by a strange vampire she encountered in the woods – the same people she considered her enemies. She is a warrior first and a queen second, she isn’t afraid to take action and ask for approval later.

Anyhow, two things I wanted to point out though it's neither on my good nor bad side is — i) the representation in this book. Killian is ready to fight and die to prevent this, but his hands are tied when Isolde agrees in a heartbeat.

How is Commander Killian able to talk so boldly to Isolde and her father, the king, and get away with it? Besides the threats on Isolde’s life, it was your usual court politics, but not very detailed or developed. In my opinion, the morals of King of Battle and Blood are trust your heart, believe in yourself, and refrain from passing judgement before you have heard both sides of the story. Isolde is a victim of patriarchal womanhood and it frustrates me that plots like this are still being written—we’re well past the days of stories like this. Isolde is a 26 years old grown-up who is set to be a queen mind you — but acted merely off her assumptions and emotions.
